Miniature Poodle

Miniature Poodle

Cute? Fuzzy? Cuddly? I am not sure about you, but those are three words that come to my mind when I think about a miniature poodle. Towering at only 15 inches and shorter, the miniature poodle is still an adorable force to be reckoned with. Whether they are eagerly waiting for you at the door or showing off their need to be athletic by having you run around the block with them, these dogs will surely keep you on your feet. As an owner of a miniature poodle myself, when these dogs aren’t keeping you active and on the go, they will want to try and show off how smart they are not only by trying to get an extra treat but by memorizing what ways they go on their daily walks. Miniature poodles tend to be extremely loyal to their owner which causes a large amount of attachment. These dogs simply become your best friend. It is quite clear that the intelligence and loyalty level of miniature poodles is a large role in why so many people add one to their own family and recommend the breed to many other individuals as well.

Advantages of Having a Miniature Poodle

Even though the cuteness of a miniature poodle is a large enough reason to want one, there are also many other advantages to adding a miniature poodle to your family. Miniature poodles are hypoallergenic. This is a huge plus if the owner happens to have asthma specifically. By miniature poodles not shedding it allows the owner with asthma to have a worry-free time knowing that their dog won’t increase their chances of having an asthma flare-up. Another advantage of having a miniature poodle is that they are easy to train, and are great with other animals. So whether you are a one animal house, or a twenty animal house, you can be at ease knowing that your dog will be able to get along with the other animals you already have. The typical life span of a miniature poodle is between ten to eighteen years. This is an advantage because your dog will either have the opportunity to grow up with you or become a companion for you for at least a decade of your life.

Disadvantages of Having a Miniature Poodle

With every dog breed, there are going to be some disadvantages. If you know that you are a very busy individual and are not going to spend a majority of your time with your dog then a miniature poodle may not be the best option for you. Miniature Poodles require a large amount of mental stimulation. They are very intelligent dogs and therefore like to be challenged with different activities that keep them entertained. You will also need to devote a time once a month when you are willing to groom your dog or take them to a dog groomer. Since miniature poodles are hypoallergenic they have hair instead of regular fur. Their hair grows quite fast requiring the owner to stay up to date on the dog’s grooming. It is also important that the owner has time to take their miniature poodle to regularly scheduled vet appointments. Miniature Poodles tend to have health problems as they grow older. Some of the health problems aren’t severe as the dog may just have allergies, but other health problems may be more serious. Miniature Poodles can develop heart problems, eye problems, and even dental disease. Though many of these health issues develop later in a miniature poodle’s life, you still need to be proactive and keep tabs on future issues that could develop down the line. It is important to stay up to date on vaccines and regular teeth cleanings so your miniature poodle lives a long happy life. Though some of these disadvantages may be the same with other dog breeds, miniature poodles require a lot of attention and quality time so if you are an individual with a busy schedule, this dog may not be the right fit.

Wrapping Things Up

Considering the advantages and disadvantages of the miniature poodle breed, if you are an individual who has enough time to devote to your pet then a miniature poodle is worth being added to your family. These cute, fuzzy, and cuddly dogs will brighten up any room and will make each day a new exciting adventure due to how active and curious they are. Though the disadvantages are lengthy regarding the health problems, many miniature poodles remain healthy and happy because of regular vet visits and proper care. So when you are thinking about what dog to add to your family, think long and hard about it and if you can devote your time to this dog breed, then go ahead and put your running shoes on because these dogs will keep you on your feet and will add an abundant amount of happiness to your life.
