  • Not as sturdy as others

Sample Customer Review… Very pleased with this product. I have Labrador retrievers and as they age, jumping into my SUV (Jeep Liberty) can be a challenge. The Jeep bumper is about 26″ above the ground. I was worried this might make the ramp too steep, but it was fine. The rubber bumpers on the underside of the ramp grip the Jeep bumper securely.

It did not budge as my dogs went up & down it. I liked the non-skid texture of the ramp too! Plus it folds easily and is compact/lightweight, so it fits easily beside the kennel in the back of my Jeep.

2. PetSTEP Original Folding Pet Ramp

This is a very sturdy ramp with a lot of useful features. Its distinctive soft non-slip rubberized surface allows for greater traction in wet or dry scenarios. It also features a non-slip grip that fits all cars and holds any size dog.

Included is an easy fold feature with ergonomic handles to allow for easy storage and portability without the use of any tools. Its strong composite plastic construction can hold up to 500 pounds and only weighs 18.5 pounds.

Features anti-rust or corrosion surface that can be easily cleaned with soap and water. As far as the price, this is a reasonably priced dog ramp that provides easy access and will be sure to last you for decades.

Specifications

  • Colors: Graphite/Gray and Khaki/Beige
  • Weight Capacity: Holds up to 500 pounds
  • Cleaning: Easy to clean with soap and water
  • Design: Composite plastic construction
Pros
  • The rubber-like surface is easy on paws
  • Sturdy
  • Folds and unfolds easily
  • Compact
  • Two colors
  • Good for dogs with arthritis
Cons
  • Not as lightweight
  • Narrow
  • Slippery when wet

Sample Customer Review… I rescue, adopt, and rehabilitate giant breed dogs, so this ramp gets a serious daily workout at my house. My dogs range in size from 100 pounds to 200 pounds. I am very pleased with this ramp so far. The surface is a unique rubber-like compound that is the easiest on a dog’s paws I have ever seen, while still providing excellent traction.

The ramp itself, as well as the hinges, are extremely sturdy, well and thoughtfully designed, and well built. The ramp folds and unfolds easily and safely. The ramp is about average weight for a ramp this size, and no easier or more difficult to use than any other comparable ramp, though I find this folding ramp easier to use than the extending aluminum ramps I have had in the past.

This ramp cleans easily, as well. The ramp is wide enough for my giant breeds, though I wouldn’t want it any narrower, and would appreciate it if it were an inch or two wider. Still, I haven’t had any dogs slip off of this ramp, even those dogs with arthritis. In my 23 years of experience with dog ramps, I definitely recommend this ramp over any other.

3. PetSafe Happy Ride Deluxe Pet Ramp

This telescoping ramp is slightly more expensive but it surely does more than the other ramp. This adjustable ramp is lightweight at just 13 pounds while being able to hold an astonishing 400 pounds (I hope your dog isn’t that much).

This is also a safe option with the high traction surface and side rails to ensure safety. A separately sold carrying case makes for even easier transportation.

Specifications

  • Color: Gray
  • Measurements: 39-72”L x 17”W x 4.75”H
  • Weight Capacity: 400 pounds
  • Weight: 13 pounds
Pros
  • Good for joint health
  • Adjustable sizing
  • Lightweight
  • Slides and locks for easy storage
  • High traction surface
  • Side rails
  • Carrying case sold separately
  • Large weight capacity
Cons
  • The surface can be tough for some dogs
  • Metal sides

Sample Customer Review… The Solvit ramp is a lifesaver!!! My Rottweiler tore both ACLs and had TTA surgery on both rear legs at once. I had no way to get her in and out of the truck to go to the vet. After surgery, I had to use a sling to lift her rear to move her around. This ramp was my only way to get her around and it works perfectly.

I have it down to where it takes seconds to pull it out and set it up. I can even use it to get her on the front porch. The only thing I can think to improve on it is to make an adapter to lift the bottom up some to reduce the angle. When at the vet it was convenient to park next to the curb to reduce the angle.

4. WeatherTech PetRamp

When it comes to car accessories, there is no brand that is more trusted than WeatherTech. From car floor liners to cargo liners, WeatherTech is the place to go for your car needs. The same can be said for dog ramps.

This dog ramp has a weight capacity much higher than many others, while still being lightweight at just 16 pounds. This is a great dog ramp if you are considering safety features like side rails and rubber grips for support.

Specifications

  • Colors: Gray and Black
  • Measurements: 37”L x 18”W x 7”H
  • Weight Capacity: 300 pounds
  • Weight: 16 pounds
Pros
  • Side rails
  • Very sturdy
  • Rubber surface for good traction
  • Durable
  • Rubber feet grips for stability
  • Folds and stores for easy transport
Cons
  • Narrow
  • Too steep for some dogs
  • Hard to carry

Sample Customer Review… I purchased this ramp to help prevent back injury for my french bulldog on our inside stairs when we first moved into our new home. We had a wide staircase and didn’t want him to climb up and down the stairs. Our pup immediately took to the ramp, and even with his crazy zoomies running up and down it does not slide, or buckle.

It easily folds in half as well when we have company that may need to use the railing, and it is easy to wipe down and clean. Since purchasing it, our boy has unfortunately injured his back (because he is just very high energy and pre-disposed) and we decided to purchase another one for the outdoor steps to prevent any stair use at all.

Since our purchase, it has not yet been used as our boy is on crate rest, but it has weathered well with a few rainstorms, and like the one inside it does not move easily while opened. Although it is not advertised to be used this way, or stay outside It has done well. Honestly, I really trust this ramp and am very grateful that I have an option to help my boy navigate our home safely.

5. Gen7Pets Natural Dog Ramp for Vehicles

This is a lightweight ramp that provides a unique natural turf surface that will give your pets a familiar feel. The Gen7Pets ramp comes in large or small with different weight options for any size dog. Its fold-out design allows for a sturdy grip that fits any vehicle. The built-in handles make it easy to put away and store. Overall, this ramp provides your pet with a natural feeling ramp that is moderately priced.

Specifications

  • Colors: Black frame with astroturf
  • Measurements: 42”L x 16”W x 1.5”H (Mini) OR 72”L x 16”W x 1.5”H (Large)
  • Weight Capacity: Holds up to 200 pounds
  • Weight: 10 pounds or 17 pounds
Pros
  • Sturdy
  • Good width
  • Astroturf surface makes for good traction
  • Easily folds and unfolds
  • Lightweight
  • Two sizes
Cons
  • A larger ramp is steep
  • Astroturf can come off

Sample Customer Review… I read dozens of reviews and picked this ramp based on comments about the size & weight of the ramp. I have two dogs. One senior 55 lbs with hind leg mobility issues and one healthy 4-year-old 65 lbs. Both walked &/or run up the ramp without any issue. The ramp is much lighter than previous ramps I’ve owned and sturdy enough for my dogs. I have a bad back and this ramp is easy for me to manage.

The astroturf covering provides good traction. I think the astroturf may need some glue in the future, but that’s an easy fix. I like this ramp much better than those I’ve had in the past and this one was more affordable. It also has nice handles on the sides.

6. Prairie View Industries Singlefold Ramp

On this list of best Jeep dog ramps, this is the one ramp on this list that isn’t specifically a pet ramp. This heavy-duty ramp is good to move just about anything and would certainly hold the biggest of dogs.

The 800-pound weight capacity is by far the most of any ramp, while still just weighing only 15 pounds. While this ramp is slightly more expensive than some of the others, you surely won’t find one as durable and heavy-duty as this.

Specifications

  • Colors: Black
  • Measurements: 39”L x 18”W x 7”H
  • Weight Capacity: 800 pounds
  • Weight: 15 pounds
Pros
  • Anti-slip tape for good traction
  • Heavy duty
  • Folds to carry easily
  • Very wide
  • Large weight capacity
  • Side rails
Cons
  • Not specifically designed for dogs
  • More expensive
  • The hinge in the middle sticks up

Sample Customer Review… What a lifesaver! This size is perfect for a single step and is lightweight, but strong. Without it, we were pretty much stranded in our house. Now I can easily set it up (It can be installed permanently, too) and roll my husband’s wheelchair right out to the car. Bolts to make the permanent install are included, along with great written and video instructions for use. I am very pleased with this product.

7. Kurgo Wander Collapsible Dog Ramp

This is a lightweight pet ramp designed to be a low-stress access point for your pets. Its design is perfect for pets suffering from old age, arthritis, and hip dysplasia. It contains a folding feature to allow for quick access and easy storage.

This product is one of the most lightweight ramps on the market at just ten pounds. It provides a non-slip incline that makes it easy for your dog to enter any vehicle, making it ideal for traveling with your companion.

Kurgo has a fair priced dog ramp that provides easy access and transportability for people that are always on the go. Included lifetime warranty will ensure that it will always be available when you need it.

Specifications

  • Warranty: Lifetime warranty from manufacturer defects
  • Weight Capacity: Holds up to 200 pounds
  • Safety: Safety lock included
  • Design: 10 pounds
Pros
  • Folds and opens easily
  • Sandpaper texture makes for good traction
  • Sturdy
  • Lightweight, but durable
  • Heavy-duty plastic
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Good for dogs with arthritis
Cons
  • Narrow
  • Some dogs may be sensitive to the gritty texture

Sample Customer Review… Very light but very sturdy. Never had an issue with it wobbling even on gravel, my dogs are 45 and 65 lbs. Works great with the Kurgo Cargo Cape too! Easy hook latch to lock on one side, never had a problem with only the one lock vs two. Very fast to open and close with minimal points where you could pinch yourself, the plastic is much safer than the metal versions out there and is still very strong.

Have heard some people complain about the “sandpaper” panels on the ramp. These are for grip so your dog doesn’t slip and injure themselves. I can tell you living in Winnipeg, Manitoba that this will be very handy come wintertime. I’m mindful about checking their paws for damage but have seen none over the few months I’ve been using the ramp.

8. Pet Gear Tri-Fold Ramp

This product is lightweight with a unique tri-fold feature for convenience. The sandpaper-like surface provides sure footing for your pup. Built-in molded handles and rubber grippers on the bottom help keep the ramp steady. This is one of the most affordable ramps on the market. It’s easy to use the fold-out features and sturdy grip make for one of the best Jeep dog ramps for any trip.

Specifications

  • Colors: Black/Gray (not carpeted) and Black/Yellow(reflective)
  • Weight Capacity: Holds up to 200 pounds
  • Measurements: 71”L x 19.5”W x 4”H
  • Design: Tri-fold
Pros
  • Sandpaper texture makes for good traction
  • Wide
  • Tri-fold for compact storage
  • Lightweight but sturdy
  • Good for joint health
Cons
  • Some dogs may be sensitive to the gritty texture
  • Steep

Sample Customer Review… I got this item for my 14-year-old Chihuahua who is suffering from lower back problems. He refuses to come up the steps to the house anymore and with fall and winter rains just around the corner I am loathed to go outside, down the steps, and back up to get him from his potty runs. This ramp is perfect for our needs! It fits over the steps nicely and is not too steep for him to walk up.

It took me a brief afternoon to teach him to use the ramp. I like the lightweight aspect which enables me to remove or relocate the ramp as needed, the color blends nicely with my deck coloring, and it is of sturdy construction affording my dog a secure and safe way to get back into the house without further injury or distress to his back.

I did add a rubberized runner to the ramp (I bought a roll of that rubbery shelf liner, it’s the right width and comes in a roll that leaves me enough to replace the runner should it wear out); the sandpapery surface it comes with is too rough for delicate paws. Gizmo resisted walking on the ramp until I added the new surface. We are both very happy with this product and its function as a ramp up the steps to the house.

9. Pet Gear Travel Lite Ramp

The Pet Gear Travel Lite Ramp is easy to transport, use, and store in your car or home. It can fit in several different vehicles and is easy to step up. It is available as a bi-fold or tri-fold configuration. While this ramp only weighs 7 pounds, it can carry up to 200 pounds. The turf on the ramp allows your dog to have a more secure footing when they use this ramp. The turf is removable which makes it easier to clean. This ramp can also be used on beds or furniture.

Specifications

  • SupertraX mat allows pets’ paws to easily grip the mat
  • Turf is soft on the pets’ paws
  • Provides raised edges to prevent slipping
  • Built-in handle
  • Rubber grips
  • Choice between a bi-fold or tri-fold design
  • 7 pounds
  • Can carry up to 200 pounds
  • Comes in 42 inches or 71 inches
Pros
  • Has raised edges and anti-slip mat
  • Durable
  • Removable mats make it easy to clean
  • Built-in handles for easy transport
Cons
  • Mats could move on the ramp’s surface
  • Pets could slide
  • Locking mechanism on ramp might become loose

Sample Customer Review… This ramp is solidly built. I find it easy to lift and unfold. It folds into a nice compact package and is easy to put into the car. It’s wider than most and the length makes a very gentle slope. The “carpeting” is actually rather like marine non-slip matting. It’s nice and not too scratchy, but definitely gives a good grip.

The rubber “grippers” underneath don’t look like much but are surprisingly efficient. Although the ramp appears a bit narrow, it is actually fine. It felt pretty stable to me and my dog had no problem walking up or down the ramp.

10. Pet Gear Free Standing Ramp

A Pet Gear Free-standing Ramp allows you to easily carry it from one object to another. This ramp can be used both indoors and outdoors. It comes with rubber feet that can help it remain stable and prevent it from moving. It also has a removable carpet that is easy to wash when needed. It can fold easily for storage and carries up to 300 pounds. It also has raised edges to prevent the dog from sliding off the side. This ramp is high enough for a 4×4 SUV.

Specifications

  • Carpet is soft and easy to remove for washing
  • Can fold for storage
  • Rubber feet provide secure placement
  • Raised edges to prevent slipping off the side
  • Can carry up to 300 pounds
  • 55” length x 19” width x 23” height
Pros
  • Big maximum carrying weight
  • Easy to set up
  • Safe for dogs
  • Durable
Cons
  • Not tall enough for Jeeps
  • Not enough traction
  • Better used on house furniture
  • Heavy

Sample Customer Review… This ramp weighs 15 lbs, and it fully assembled. It has locking joints, making it solid in construction. It folds up nicely and does not take up too much room. It was very secure without instability when my dog tested it out. I have also tried it on the rear door of my SUV and she likes that better.

There is a gap between the ramp and door but not enough to matter for a bigger dog. I feel the ramp height and length are just right and it feels solid. The carpet is a nylon variety. It’s not plush but it’s not harsh, either. It is secured by Velcro and can be laundered. It is a bit cumbersome to lift but easier than lifting her in and out.

Buying Guide: What to Look For When Searching For Pet Ramps

Durability

If you take your dog out often, you are going to want the best Jeep dog ramps that will last you a long time. You don’t want to get a ramp that is made out of cheap plastic that will break if your Terrier eats one too many treats. You want to look for a ramp that will hold your dogs for years.

Surface

We advise that you also look for a ramp that has a surface that provides traction for your dog to be able to get up into that car. The last thing you want is for your pup to slip and fall when trying to scale the ramp. We encourage getting a textured ramp, one that will minimize slippage.

Compactivity

When you’re going on a road trip, it is essential that you have as much storage and space as possible. You surely don’t want to be squished for space when driving across the country. The best Jeep dog ramps will ensure that you can carry your ramp wherever your dog may bring you.

Cleaning

You and I both know that dogs can be a mess. From dirt to sand to anything in between, you never know what’s going to be on your puppy’s paws. You want to get a ramp that is easy to clean and won’t get your car all messy.

Size

This is arguably the most important thing to consider when buying a ramp. You want to make sure that you look closely at the dimensions to ensure that your ramp is the right size for your pup.

If your ramp is too narrow, you risk your dog falling off the side and getting hurt. I don’t want that. You don’t want that. Your dog doesn’t want that. So just please just check the size.

Price

We also know that dogs come with a lot of expenses. We want to minimize those costs, while also giving you the best bang for your buck. These ramps won’t break the bank and will provide you with a product that will last you for yours to come.

Tips for Using Ramps

Training

Another important aspect of buying the best Jeep dog ramps is getting your dog accustomed to using the ramp. Many dogs may be wary of walking on a new surface when you first bring home a ramp.

We recommend practicing with your dog on a flat surface to get them used to the feel of the ramp. This will make it easier for them to use the ramp when it comes time to get your dog into the car. We want this process to be as simple for you as possible and practicing with your dog will certainly help with that.

Once you get your dog to use the ramp to get them into the car, it is important to start with positive reinforcement to get the dog to be comfortable with using the ramp. For example, if you use the ramp for the first time to bring your dog to the vet, your dog will associate the ramp with the vet.

Instead, you want your pup to have a positive association with the ramp. You can do this by using the ramp to bring your dog to the park or to get a treat for the first few times. This will help your dog have a positive association with the ramp and will make it easier to get them in the car when you do have to go to the vet or somewhere else undesirable.

When training your dog, it is also important to be supervising your dog when they are using their ramp. It is possible that your dog might be nervous when first using the ramp, which could cause them to fall off or jump.

You must keep an eye on your dog as they are getting used to using the ramp. You should always keep an eye on your dog, but it is more so important in the early training stages.

Stability

In addition to getting your dog accustomed to the ramp, it is also important to make sure that the ramp is safe for your dog to walk on. It is essential to have the ramp on flat, level ground to ensure that the ramp does not tip and throw your dog off.

It would also be good to invest in a ramp that has rubber gripped feet to keep the ramp from sliding. There are a few linked above. If not, you should invest in your own rubber grips to attach to the bottom of your ramp.

Ramps or Stairs

Another decision that one must consider when making this purchase is whether they want a dog ramp or dog stairs. Both are used to allow dogs to get up into a car, bed, couch, etc., and are both very effective.

However, ramps tend to be better for dogs with joint pain and arthritis. Since stairs are steeper, they require more pressure on the joints of the dog. With that in mind, if you do choose a ramp, it is important to get a ramp that is not too steep.

Just like the stairs, a ramp that is too steep can also lead to joint pain. Several of the best Jeep dog ramps shown above can alleviate joint pain and help dogs that deal with arthritis.

Conclusion

It is easy to get lost when searching for the best Jeep dog ramps. With so many styles and sizes and colors to choose from, it can be a hectic process. That is why we wanted to make it easier for you to find the right ramp. Using our research above, we can assure you that you’ll have the best ramp for your situation and for the right price. So the next time your Basset is hounding you to go on a ride, you’ll be ready to roll with the best Jeep dog ramps.

What are dog ramps?

Dog ramps are what you would consider a helpful device that facilitates the movement of your canine from an elevated position to lower ground and vice versa. These can be vehicles like SUVs, trucks, furniture like beds or sofas, and even boats. Their point is to ensure the safety of your pet as it goes up and down the high surfaces making sure they don’t harm themselves in the long run. Dogs with medical issues like arthritis or simply too small for the surface they must reach are typically the ones that are recommended for these contraptions.

What is the difference between ramps and stairs for dogs?

Both instruments help our little furry friends get from point A to point B. The difference lies in how they help and what they provide. Ramps are known for having different slopes which may be beneficial for those dogs that require really specific heights and degrees when it comes to how steep or gentle they can climb into. Stairs are helpful when it comes to skittish canines that do not trust well a ramp because of their more gentle grip. To know more about which is better for your pet, you should consider first their usual choices and personalities since it can reflect on how well they will adjust to the gadgets.
