Are Dyson Cordless Vacuums Worth The Cost?

Have you been going back and forth about the possibility of spending the money to get a Dyson vacuum but don’t know if they are truly worth the cost?  Many people rave about the brand and that is for good reason. The product is a really solid device and works as advertised.  If you are asking the question of whether or not it is worth the big price tag or if you should go with other options for the best cordless vacuums, then this article will be of great use for you.

Most Dyson products come with the same expensive price tag, regardless if it is the vacuum or not. This MUST mean that they are worth it if they think they can charge that much and get away with it right? We’ll take a look and be able to answer the question “are Dyson cordless vacuums worth the cost?”

What it Comes With

Depending on the certain model of vacuum that you get, you will receive slightly different things in the box but most are very similar. It comes with the actual vacuum, a connecting shaft piece, a docking station, a torque drive head, a charger, and multiple attachments to go with it.

You might find all these different pieces overwhelming because the pieces are all over the place, but most people are able to put their vacuums together in a couple of minutes.

The vacuum comes with a mounting plate to mount the charging station onto the wall, but if you cannot do that or do not want to drill holes into your wall, you can easily just plug it into a normal wall charger.

The first thing to do is to select the power mode that you want to use.  You can choose from three different modes – Eco, Auto, and Boost. The eco mode is made for longer cleaning sessions and makes sure that your battery will hang on for the majority of your vacuuming. It allows you to get the most cleaning time out of your battery. The auto mode is the medium setting that makes it easy to switch between different power levels when going from one-floor surface to another.

The last setting, boost, is meant for the most intense deep cleaning that is designed to suck up as much grime and dirt that is possible. It is very easy to switch between different modes by using the LCD screen on the vacuum.

Once you have chosen the correct mode you want to use, then you can start it by holding down the trigger on the vacuum. This is very much different than other vacuums that you have used so it might take some time to get used to it.

Some people complain that the mechanism is not ideal because if you let go of the trigger, the vacuum shuts off. However, this does allow for much more battery conservation rather than just keeping the machine on at all times.

Many reviews suggest that even the eco mode on the hardwood floors works extremely well and will pick up a lot of dirt that you didn’t even know was there in the first place. The Dyson vacuum is an upgrade for many people when it comes to their old vacuums. One of the reasons for this is the fact that it IS cordless and you can take it almost anywhere, like under radiators, around corners, etc.

Most of the areas you can reach with these are areas that don’t normally get touched with traditional vacuums with cords. For hardwood, it is common to have to empty the vacuum bin twice while cleaning a small apartment. This can be super annoying if you have a much larger space, however, the dumping process is fairly simple. All you have to do is take the machine off of the shaft, pull down the opening bin over a trash can, and then snap it back into place.

In regard to Dyson’s capability for cleaning carpets and furniture, it handles it just as well as the hardwood. Some settings are harder to move on the carpet than others because of the amount of suction the vacuum uses. The auto setting works great in changing between different floor types. The vacuum sucks up a tremendous amount of dust, dirt, and hair.

Some models come with attachments that allow you to turn them into a hand vacuum and to easily attack furniture. The best setting to use on furniture would be the boost setting in my opinion. The boost mode allows for high-powered cleaning, especially in the hard-to-reach crevices of the couches and chairs. The hand-vac attachment could be of great use for your car as well.

So… Is it Worth it?

Are Dyson cordless vacuums worth the cost? It depends on what your definition of “worth it” is. I would say that while the Dyson is a great product and has incredible potential to be of great use for anyone who wants to have a squeaky clean apartment, the common $700 price tag is a little much when you think about the other options for similar products that are MUCH cheaper.

The Dyson is by far one of the best options in terms of quality out there, but with a price tag as much as some people’s rent for a month, it is hard to say that a product like this is “worth” it.

We hope that reading this has allowed you to make an informed decision on whether or not the Dyson branded vacuum is the right choice for you!
