1. Acer Swift 3

If you want raw power in a lightweight package, the Acer Swift 3 may be the laptop for you. Acer has long been a competitor in the mid-range market, and Swift 3 brings some impressive silicon to the $600 range. With a 14” FHD display, AMD Ryzen 5 processor, 256GB SSD, Wi-Fi 6, and 2 USB-C ports all in a body that weighs just 2.65 lbs, the Swift 3’s hardware makes it a great mobile laptop.

If you’re willing to shell out an extra $90 or so, you can upgrade the CPU and storage to an 8-core Ryzen 7 with 512 GB of storage, making this laptop a true mobile powerhouse. Don’t expect this laptop to run all your favorite games, but handling multiple apps simultaneously and business-related software is a breeze. So if you want a light laptop that “just works,” the Swift 3 is for you.

Pros
  • Fast and powerful
  • Fingerprint reader
  • 2 USB-C ports
  • Lightweight
Cons
  • Screen could be better
  • Laptop gets hot easily

Sample Customer Review… “This laptop is really light, well made (aluminum, not plastic), seems to have a very long battery life but most of all, to me, it’s really, really fast and peppy. I looked at a lot of other Ultrabook in this < $700 price range and nothing else from Dell, HP, Asus or Samsung could touch it.

I don’t see the issue that many reviewers complain about regarding the lack of screen brightness, but I don’t much use a laptop outdoors. What I’m obliged to say I notice about the screen is that it looks a little “washed out”, and by that I mean I wish there was more contrast between whites and blacks…  But for the price and otherwise, performance, I can live with it.”

2. Acer Aspire 5 Laptop

Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop is, by customer vote, the best classic laptop for both home, school, casual, and professional use. For a reasonable price on Amazon, Acer Aspire 5 is the most popular laptop for under $600 on Amazon. Techtiptop.com calls Acer Aspire 5 the “best budget laptop.” Laptop Under Budget rates the Acer Aspire 5 as a “bestseller.” Best Laptop Ninja calls Acer Aspire 5 a “#TopPick.” Real Reviews ranks Acer Aspire 5 as #1 by reviewers.

Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop has a 15.6 inch screen and proficient screen resolution, 1920 x 1080 pixels. For your late night or dim environment utilization, it has bluelight eye-protecting screen and a backlit keyboard It has the newest processor from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), on equal functionality with the brand, Intel. Silver-colored, 4 pounds with a smooth finish, it is aesthetic and professional looking, perfect for work or school.

Power saving features can prolong the battery life to 9.5 hours and the battery is fast-charging. Acer Aspire 5 has fingerprint reader security, a novelty asset. By virtue of popularity, this is a tried and true cost efficient laptop.

Pros
  • Fast processor
  • Significant SSD storage and RAM
  • Slim and Sturdy Design
  • Comfortable Keyboard
  • Lasting battery life
Cons
  • Loud Fan
  • No SD card reader
  • Weak Graphics Card

Sample Customer Review… This laptop is a fantastic deal for the price. The laptop uses the same body as the $500+ Acer Aspire 5 models, which is to say it has a fantastic body that is light and compact, and very portable. Ram can easily be upgraded and adding a 2.5″ SSD allows for additional memory over the 128GB included on the computer. The keyboard is comfortable to type on and as a bonus still includes a full numpad, even if it is a bit cramped.

The screen is a solid IPS screen, and when you consider the price tag, it’s amazing and beats a lot of the more expensive laptop screens I have seen.

3. ASUS F512DA-EB51 VivoBook 15 Thin and Light Laptop

ASUS is on the most expensive end of the $600 spectrum, but this is an extremely cost efficient computer because it is a enormous 15.6 size laptop weighing only 2.5 pounds. It is extremely portable. It is the same resolution as that of Acer Aspire, 1920 x 1080 and is HD, which means higher than average resolution quality. The keyboard is elevated for typing comfort, indicative of luxury and thus a higher price.

The battery has only a 3 hour lifetime. ASUS has a microphone and a backlit keyboard for nocturnal consumer activity. The aesthetic is darker than Acer Aspire, but they are of equal caliber in terms of sleekness and professional character. ASUS is slate gray, a dark gray, while Acer is black and silver. ASUS is best used for office work and studying, lighter gaming. Its security is standard, no fingerprint detection.

Overall, ASUS is a more aesthetic computer than Acer Aspire, thus it is more expensive. It is also lighter, more portable. In terms of luxury qualities the two computers are similar. Buy at your leisure.

Pros
  • Light and portable design
  • ErgoLift hinge for comfortable typing
  • Quality build
  • Available in four colors
  • Wide viewing angles
  • TruBlock for privacy screen
  • Comfortable typing
Cons
  • Not good color coverage
  • Overheats quickly

Sample Customer Review… This is a sleek and modern laptop! It barely takes any effort to type. I really like the backlit keyboard as well as the number keypad on the right. There are plenty of ports, both HDMI and USB. The screen appears large for a compact laptop and the resolution is amazing. I work with a lot of photos and they look absolutely great!

I appreciate the 8 GB of RAM which makes using Photoshop and other programs fast and efficient. This machine is quick to turn on and seems to last a long time on a battery charge. It is very lightweight and will be easy to travel with. I think this is an excellent value… I highly recommend this computer!

4. HP Pavilion x360 14″

The HP Pavilion line has always been a solid contender in the mid-range convertible laptop market, and this year is no exception. Though slightly above $600, it brings a lot of solid hardware and features to the table if you’re willing to expand your budget a little bit. With a 10th gen i5 processor, a full HD screen, 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM, backlit keyboard, and a USB-C Thunderbolt port, the Pavilion has all the standard hardware you would expect from a modern laptop and isn’t lacking in any regard.

The 14” screen is bright with a good color balance and no bleed, ideal for consuming content like movies or videos. Extra features like the built-in fingerprint sensor and touchscreen make this laptop great for people who need to log in quickly or like to handwrite notes. Also, at just over 3.5 lbs, this laptop is lightweight and great for doing work on the go.

Overall, this laptop is a perfect choice for those who don’t want to pay for anything fancy but aren’t willing to compromise on standard functionality, and will welcome the small bonus features this laptop provides.

Pros
  • Great display
  • Built-in touchscreen
  • Fingerprint reader
  • Good port selection
Cons
  • Processor is outdated
  • Bad return policy

Sample Customer Review… “I bought this computer about 4 months back and it has not disappointed me. I am a college student and it works great for my school work and notes. The shipping was a day early which made me very happy! One downside is the battery life is not super long (because of the touch screen feature which I was aware of going into so I am not upset) so if you don’t mind taking your charger along with you during the day just in case it ends up being a long one then I say it’s a great investment!”

5. Microsoft Surface Go

Windows Central calls Microsoft Surface Go the “best overall” laptop. It is a cost efficient PC, or personal computer. Microsoft Surface Go has less RAM, Random Access Memory, than most computers, only 4 GB compared to 8GB in more expensive personal computers. This means it is less appropriate for gaming and has greater difficulty running multiple programs at high speeds and functionality.

Nevertheless, Microsoft Go is touchscreen, very technologically modern and convenient to learn and surf. It is extremely portable, only 1.15 pounds. Its battery is above average, a laudable 9 hours for all day use. The aesthetic of Microsoft Go is sleek but the keyboard may be hard to use. Security is standard. Overall, Microsoft Go is the ultimate student and leisure PC due to its portability, touch screen, and attractive aesthetic. Simple game apps can be used for light gaming, but anything like World of Warcraft is unachievable.

Pros
  • Long Battery Life
  • Portable
  • Keyboard Works Great
  • 8GB RAM
  • Fast Storage
  • Dual Shooter
Cons
  • Not very repairable
  • Pricey Upgrade
  • Need for dongles
  • Small Screen

Sample Customer Review… Got my Surface Go in 2 days. Love it!!! Great for a traveler. I installed my Office 365, with no problem. I installed my business VPN, with no problem. I can surf the web, read emails, open my business VPN and work from my Surface Go, without issues. I installed a remote desktop assistant and had no issues when remoting in and working on another PC. However, you will need to spend the money on the accessories…Keyboard – yes… Pen – depending on your use/job.

I never thought I would use the pen but it is a great stylus and if you learn how to use it with Office and compatible software… to draw, highlight, make notes, capture screen image….it is worth the purchase. Keep your charger close by. My daily use over 2 days is about 4 hours of battery. Overall, great traveling companion for those on “The GO”!!!

6. Lenovo Ideapad S340 Ultrabook

Lenovo Ideapad is the best ultrabook with low bulk and uncompromised battery life. This is the only ultrabook featured for our list of the best laptops under $600 because it is both cost-effective and high quality. This ultrabook is extremely cost-friendly, so it features a still high caliber 8th generation intel processor. It is good for both high memory storage and heavy gaming.

The audio is unmatched and the webcam comes with a shutter for your privacy discretions. The graphics are named brand, Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620, adding to its ideal use for gaming. Backlit keyboard enhances your experience in the dark.

The aesthetic is portable, attractive, yet highly useful for loading multiple pages and programs. Lenovo Ideapad only weighs 3.96 pounds. The security is unmatched due to built-in security tools, and it can link with both PC and Mobile phone with ease. Overall, Lenovo Ideapad is the best price for a versatile ultrabook.

Pros
  • 8th gen processor
  • Excellent battery backup
  • Fast cache memory
  • Good Quality Speakers
Cons
  • Okay HD display
  • Selective storage

Sample Customer Review… The NVMe drive really makes this system pop! Boots into windows in less than 30 seconds! The ability to add a second SSD for additional storage is a bonus! The track pad is not so great so I recommend a wireless mouse. Still it’s a great value!

7. New HP 15.6″ HD Touchscreen Laptop

HP HD touchscreen is the best laptop for gaming. It features 10 finger synchronous or asynchronous touch sensors. This laptop is 4.4 pounds and is heavier due to its use for gaming, requiring the latest 10th Generation Intel core memory and processing system. HP HD touchscreen features UHD graphics, HD audio, stereo speakers, and webcam, perfect for gaming while voice calling teammates or friends.

This laptop is built for gaming but comes with the added benefit of being ideal for school use due to its subscription to WIndows 10 security and good memory. The laptop is silver, an appropriate aesthetic for a practical use of leisure mixed with learning and even professional working. Overall, HP HD touchscreen is the best laptop under $600, but I added a laptop of equal caliber but greater price for reference and buyer discretion, since the two gaming laptops that I am recommending are both within the same price range.

Pros
  • Great Touchscreen Display
  • Good Sound Quality
  • Backlit Keyboard
Cons
  • Overheats
  • Slow Performance
  • Installation issues

Sample Customer Review… I’ve had the lap top for a few weeks now and it works pretty well. I purchased it for online classes and zoom meetings. It works well. I will say the battery seems to drain quick as I will start a 3 hour class with full battery and have around 50% left by the time class ends. Otherwise its nice size, lightweight, camera is good, speakers are good, and touch screen works well.

I did have to do some stuff with Windows S or whatever in order to get Google Chrome to work, but I figured it out for free and haven’t had any issues. I give it a 5 star rating. I’m happy.

8. Dell Inspiron 3000 Laptop

Dell Inspiron is also known as one of the best laptops for gaming, and it costs a little more than the HP HD touchscreen. What is a list of cost efficient laptops without a Dell brand choice? Dell is reputed as one of the oldest and best laptop brands, and it is very popular for gaming. Therefore, Dell inspiron is price friendly as we know, and it is also good for work or school. This versatility can be ascribed to its built in Windows 10 program, bluetooth capability, and professional appearance.

Furthermore, it can be used to hold conferences for working at home due to its webcam, UHD graphics, and best, most recent generation, 10th Generation Intel processor. This newest processor allows the agile and speedy running of multiple programs and high memory retention. Furthermore, the HD quality, graphics, and webcam microphone allows gaming with friends or team members by call. Dell inspiron is appropriately built, weighing 4.45 pounds, sturdy and strong. Overall, Dell Inspiron is another brand name alternative to the other gaming laptops, and the price is unmatched.

Pros
  • Good size RAM
  • 10th gen processor
  • Wi-Fi 5 support
  • Touch Panel
  • Dual storage
Cons
  • Heavy
  • Dull display

Sample Customer Review… I’ve owned this laptop for about 2 months now. I have been very pleased with this computer. I chose it because I wanted touch screen and to not spend a fortune getting it. This was a good choice for me to be able to work and I have no complaints thus far.

9. HP 17.3″ HD+ Flagship Home & Business Laptop

HP 17-inch Laptop costs a little more than $600, but that is the best price you can get for a mammoth laptop size of 17.3 inches diagonal screen. It is only 5.4 pounds, but a higher weight is perfectly normal for a laptop of its size. For a 17-inch laptop, this HP is the most portable, inexpensive, and sturdy that the laptop can claim. It is business black colored. HP 17-inch is meant for use at work because of its sturdiness, high screen resolution with LED backlit display for diminishing eye strain, bluetooth elements, and mature aesthetic.

There are stereo speakers and a webcam for your office meetings. The full size island style keyboard is highly practical and user-friendly in a professional setting and the processor is the latest intel with a count of 4 processors. Security involves Windows acclaimed measures for password protection. Overall, this is a business, professional, working laptop with extreme user-friendliness and high versatility. Its graphics and features are ideal for working at home and in meetings, especially since there is a quarantine at hand.

Pros
  • High Processor performance
  • Touch Pad offers accessibility
  • Long Battery Life
Cons
  • Screen Freezing Issue
  • Updates cause issues

Sample Customer Review… I bought this to replace a Laptop I bought 2 years ago that I gave to someone else in the house. Everything is working great, it was easy to set up, runs fast, and the graphics are great. I have watched videos and it has performed wonderfully. I think it is an excellent Laptop, overall, to use at home. I cannot speak for its gaming abilities, but I think every gamer knows what they need. So for us average people, I think this will fill the bill at a good price.

10. Lenovo Chromebook 14 Inch Laptop

Lenovo Chromebook is one of the most cost efficient PC’s because it is the cheapest, and, unlike Microsoft Surface Go, Lenovo Chromebook has a sturdy keyboard attached to its screen, which is better for typing. Nevertheless it is heavier and thus less portable. It has standard resolution.

Lenovo Chromebook comes with virus protection and long battery life. The microphone is standard. The laptop color is fittingly “business black” which appropriately describes this professional looking laptop. It is inconspicuous yet professional, perfect for work, school, college, leisure.

Lenovo Chromebook is a light gaming device, but its aesthetic is incomparable. Overall, due to professional aesthetic, unmatchable price, high functionality, black color, and sturdiness, Lenovo Chromebook could be said to be ideal for male students and working men, but women with a more inconspicuous style could also find this laptop as a cost efficient fit for university, school, or work. At a glance, a temporary laptop for business sees this computer as a good fit.

Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Well Built
  • 180-degree hinge screen
  • Portable
Cons
  • Weak Resolution
  • Average battery life

Sample Customer Review… I was nervous about ordering this Chromebook many months before arrival. It was a Christmas gift for my husband. However, it arrived as scheduled in great condition. We had been looking for an affordable Chromebook of good quality for watching videos, browsing the internet, and using google documents. The battery life is awesome and the resolution is great. He’s been using it since December and is very happy with it. Would recommend!

11. HP Chromebook X360 14-Inch HD Touchscreen Laptop

The HP Chromebook 360 is a convertible laptop, tablet, tent and stand. Its hinges allow multiple usage in different forms, perfect as a portable laptop or tablet for viewing on the bed casually or on a desk professionally or studiously.

Drawing and taking notes on the tablet is easy since it is a touch tablet. There is a long lasting battery and optimal microphone. The aesthetic is versatile and work-home-travel friendly. HP chromebook 360 comes in ceramic white or mineral silver, beautiful colors.

There are two high speed processors, yet the chromebook is only good for light gaming, such as that from applications. It is 3.49 pounds. Overall, this HP chromebook is user friendly for a number of uses and is best for one looking for a less expensive tablet or laptop with high aesthetic appeal, and need for portability.

Pros
  • Full backlit keyboard
  • 360-degree Screen
  • Lightweight
  • Good battery
  • Multiple connection options
Cons
  • Low Internal Storage
  • Dim Screen

Sample Customer Review… This Chromebook is great! Bright screen, the touchscreen response is great, pretty loud speakers, charging ports on both sides is AMAZING!!!! The camera and mic do a good job on quality. Very happy with everything and the price!

12. Lenovo Chromebook Convertible

Lenovo Convertible Chromebook is a 2-in-1 convertible laptop. It is energy conserving with a good display featuring backlit keyboards and LED screen light, easy on the eyes in light or dark environments. It is battery conserving, too. Lenovo convertible comes with a built-in microphone, headphone pack, stereo, and webcam.

The aesthetic is versatile and a little more luxurious than the less expensive HP Chromebook 360. Also, Lenovo Convertible chromebook is blizzard-white and only 11.6 ounces, portable to an incredible level. The processor is from Mediatek. Overall, Lenovo chromebook is extremely portable, more portable and light than the HP Chromebook, but that is why the extra hundred dollars might be worth the cost in buying Lenovo Chromebook Convertible.

Pros
  • Low Price
  • Lasting Battery Life
  • Good Storage
  • Bright Screen
  • Multiple connection ports
Cons
  • Subpar Sound
  • No backlit keyboard
  • White color shows wear and tear

Sample Customer Review… This was bought to replace an older Chromebook whose battery no longer holds a charge. Overall, it is fast, has a very good keyboard and touchpad, and can be used as a tablet in addition to being used with the keyboard. The touchscreen is responsive and accurate. The battery life is good, and the amount of memory and RAM has not been an issue so far. The color is nice too!

Buyer’s Guide: Things to consider when choosing the best laptop under $600

Size

Possibly the most noticeable aspect of any laptop is its size. Even with a budget of $600, there are a wide variety of sizes to choose from. Smaller laptops, such as those with a display diagonal of 13” or less, are light and portable, but sacrifice battery life and screen size. Larger laptops provide a larger battery, a larger screen, and sometimes even a ten-key number pad at the expense of extra weight and bulk.

Display

The standard display resolution for laptops in this price range is 1080p, also known as full HD. However, even if two different screens are identical in size and resolution, they are not equal. Laptop displays can vary in brightness, contrast, color accuracy, and viewing angle, which should be considered if you use your laptop outside a lot, or do a lot of photo or video editing.

Processing power

There are a few options for raw processing power in this price range. Most laptops will have either an Intel i3 or i5 CPU, or an equivalent from AMD. An i3 is enough to handle all the essential functions of a computer, but if you do anything more complicated than web browsing or binge-watching, try to look for a laptop with an i5. As for graphics, none of these laptops will ever pass for a gaming rig. Even the most powerful of this selection will only be able to handle light gaming at best while relying on the CPU’s integrated graphics.

Storage and RAM

Pay attention to how much RAM a laptop has before buying it. Most will come with 8GB by default, which is plenty for regular use. However, some may start at 4GB or 12GB instead, so depending on your needs, that may not be right for you. More RAM will come at a price, but will make multitasking and graphic-intensive work easier. As for storage, almost all modern laptops now use SSDs, but make sure to double check. An HDD will be cheaper, but much slower. Also, make sure that the storage capacity is enough for your needs.

Battery life

This is a difficult statistic to gauge, since everyone uses their laptop differently, and battery life is influenced by that. Any claim of 8 hours or more should be enough to get you through the day, but always take that number with a grain of salt, as you will probably get less battery life than advertised.

Conclusion

Purchasing a great laptop that will give you the best user experience doesn’t have to hurt your wallet. The aforementioned laptops are great for college students, office settings, casual work, gamers, and more. We hope you found one fit for you with our list the best laptops under $600.
