Top 10 of the Best Laptops Under $1000 Dollars

1. Lenovo Flex 5

Lenovo Flex 5 14″ 2-in-1 convertible Laptop. Flex 5 is lightweight, ultrathin, and ultraportable. Lenovo’s Flex 5 only weighs 3.64 lbs. Not only does it weigh less, but it is also less than 1-inch thick when closed. It is slim, elegant, and stylish. The laptop is powered by the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U mobile processor with Radeon graphics.

The laptop also comes with a pen and you can literally carry it everywhere. You can take it on the go. Lenovo’s Flex 5 gives you great design and brilliant, all-around performance, graphics, and productivity, whether you’re at work in the office, or studying at school, or enjoying entertainment at home.

Flex 5’s 360° hinge lets you quickly turn your touchscreen laptop into a tablet for easy interaction, letting you write and scribble smoothly with the digital pen that comes with it. It has narrow bezels with a full high definition (1920 x 1080) IPS panel with 2 x 2W Speakers with Dolby Audio.

Some more amazing features include a physical privacy shutter on the HD 720p camera with Fixed-Focus CMOS, 2×2 Wi-Fi 5 (802.11 ca), and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity options, and 2 USB-A, 1 USB-C, and an HDMI port. You can also get up to 10 hours of battery life, and 1 hour of charge time gives you 80% power!

Pros
  • Lightweight and ultrathin
  • 2-in-1 laptop and tablet
  • Lenovo Stylus included
  • Good price for the value
  • Radeon RX Vega 6 graphics
  • Solid build quality
Cons
  • Overheats after excessive use
  • Display not bright enough for outdoor use

Sample Customer Review… This is, by far, the best laptop I have personally ever owned. This bad boy will do just about any portable task you need to be accomplished with solid battery life to boot. The display is above average and the sound is on par with much higher priced laptops. With the full-sized HDMI port, it can double as a home PC.

A $600 laptop you can game on? I play World of War Ships at medium default settings and it runs smooth as silk at 1080p 70fps with the integrated Radeon Vega 6 graphics and the Zen hexacore CPU at 7nm! While it wasn’t like a2080, at 720p low presets full screen, Red Dead Redemption 2 was playable and looked good at 30fps. See screenshots. Worried about there only being a 256GB M.2 for storage?

My steam games are installed on a USB 3.0 2TB external drive and load times are no different than on my gaming desktop and all gameplay is flawless. With 8GB of shared VRAM (see attached), this little laptop can virtually run any triple-A game if you are willing to drop the res. I could hear the fan lightly after gaming but not during and it quiets down quickly once done. Browsing, office, video, music, everything is covered. Flip to tablet mode and let your creativity flow.

My daughter jumped on and whipped up the attached sketch with the included active pen. It is now my desktop wallpaper. For the price, you will not find another rig like this one. Comparable to $1000 laptops. Definitely a gem.

Another nice feature is the exhaust is out the rear and the KB deck remains cool during use. The intake is in the bottom center so as long as you gap your legs a little, this is a true and cool “laptop” that doesn’t really feel like a laptop on your lap. Also, it comes with rapid charge tech and can take a dead battery to 80% in 1 hour with no mem effect on the battery. To sum it up, this is the “laptop that can”.

2. HP Envy x360

The HP Envy laptop is 15.6 inches with a Full HD IPS Anti-glare micro-edge WLED-backlit Touchscreen (1920 x 1080) Display. The processor is also top-notch where you can perform all your tasks. It comes with an AMD Ryzen 5 4500U 2.30GHz Hexa-Core Processor up to 4.0GHz, AMD Radeon Graphics with Shared Graphics Memory.

Another feature that we love is the 8GB high-bandwidth RAM to run multiple applications, browse, and stream tabs smoothly. It comes with 256GB of space, with 2 USB ports, Type C, 1 HDMI, 1 Combination audio jack, and Multi-format SD Media Card Reader.

With these multiple ports, you can perform every possible function without requiring additional accessories. HP Envy also has the best brand speakers i.e, Bang & Olufsen, a sleek Backlit Keyboard, Fingerprint Reader, Wireless-AX, and Bluetooth Combo, Windows 10 Home, 4.41 Pounds.

Pros
  • Small, yet powerful
  • Excellent battery life
  • 2-in-1 touchscreen tablet mode
  • Good build quality
  • Fast charging
  • Full HD resolution
  • Backlit keyboard
Cons
  • Constricted touchpad
  • Glossy display
  • No 4K display option
  • Overheating problem

Sample Customer Review… I am not an HP or AMD fan but I have been converted by this laptop.

First AMD CPU at least the Ryzen is smoking fast. Previously I only touched Intel but I have never been impressed with the speed of the Intel-only that I felt it was a more stable CPU than the AMD. A friend said to try the Ryzen. It beats Intel i-7 10th gen hands down, the speed is clearly visible, unlike the Intel chips which I feel at the end of the day what did I really pay for.

The Laptop is light, the touchscreen is great, the tablet conversion is very good. And then the battery, which is big to me, is very good. It lasts for a long time. One of the things that they have done is to conserve power use. For instance, the Keyboard backlight is a switch, you turn in as needed.

That’s ingenious because that’s a power hog. I would say it would last 10hrs even with extensive surfing etc. It is also expandable, for instance, I changed the M2 drive with my own and I added my own RAM. This component upgrade option is big for me. HP got this one correct. It’s solid enough for business use, powerful enough for a developer, and snazzy enough for a college student. I would recommend

3. HP Pavilion x360

The HP Pavilion has a slightly smaller screen at just 14 inches. But, it is very competitive due to the 2-in-1 convertible laptop. The computer can be used as either a tablet or a computer. The tablet setup allows the user to take notes using a stylus, mimicking paper, and combining digital technology with the past ease of note-taking. The computer is also equipped with 256GB of space and an Intel i5 and 8GB of RAM.

One of the few laptops in its price range is to incorporate fingerprint ID, which is an extra secure way to prevent people from accessing the laptop without permission. It is also one of the few laptops in its price range to come with a good quality webcam, especially important for today’s quarantine world. This laptop would be perfect for students.

Pros
  • 2-in-1 convertible laptop
  • Performs well over time
  • Extra security features
  • Good build quality
  • Touch screen display
  • 360-degree rotation
  • High-quality stereo sound
Cons
  • Poor battery life
  • Grainy webcam
  • No ethernet
  • Only 1-year warranty
  • No SD card slot

Sample Customer Review… The screen is beautiful, the touch screen is very responsive. I have been using this for zoom and Google hangouts and it has worked seamlessly while I am doing business presentations. It is a little heavy but feels pretty durable so it’s a good trade-off. The sound could be a little bit better, but the wifi is great, blue tooth connections are great.

Use it as one normally uses the computer, but with a super satisfying click of keys and beautiful backlighting. Want to watch a movie? The Full HD display ensures that the details of the game are crisp and clear. Want to take notes, but forgot your notebook? No Problem. Just pull out your Pen for the HP Specter (not included), and flip the laptop. Use the incredible touch screen to take notes as if it were paper, but with the ease of accessibility through technology.

Worried you are too productive? This laptop comes equipped with Windows 10 and 512 GB of storage space. 9 hours of battery usage ensures you won’t run out at crucial times, be it in the middle of your presentation at school, in the middle of the board meeting at work, or while you take a break by watching Schitt’s Creek or playing Overwatch.

Pros
  • 2-in-1 laptop and tablet
  • Above-average webcam
  • Three USB ports and HDMI port
  • Supports 4G LTE
  • Handles everyday workloads well
Cons
  • Poor speaker quality
  • Uncomfortable keyboard
  • Average performance
  • Not the best value for the price

Sample Customer Review… I bought this laptop for college, being a freshman I was looking for something affordable that would last. I got the core i5 10th gen and I am absolutely happy with my purchase. I had thought about getting a mac but price-wise it was out of range. The pavilion is very smooth and crisp in a way. I use it for online classes and I have to run some programs for my science classes.

It has NOT let me down. I’ve been using it for about a month now and it still works like new. The setup took me like 15 minutes when I first got it. The only thing that I believe could be a con for some is that the battery will not last a whole day. I start class at around 8:20 am and around 12 pm the battery is dead, there is a battery saver button tho and it usually lets my battery last an extra hour or so.

Tablet mode is fun, I don’t usually use it so I have no comment on that. Regardless, very good product for the price. I would 100% recommend it for college students.

5. Lenovo Flex 14

The Lenovo Flex 14 is an incredible piece of technology, equipped with the latest developments at a reasonable price. Firstly, the laptop is a 2-in-1, which means it is a touch screen and the normal computer screen. The touchscreen is even compatible with a pen, which is included in the package. The laptop is also technologically advanced internally. It comes equipped with AMD’s Ryzen 5 3500U Processor, 12GB of RAM, 256GB NVMe SSD, and Windows 10.

The laptop can be used for gaming as well. It has ports for HDMI, USB-C, and USB 3.1, not common in newer laptops. Lenovo values customer privacy, and so the computer includes a privacy shutter in front of the camera, so it can be closed when not in use. The included pen allows you to write, sketch, draw, directly on your screen.

The laptop can fold at and be used at different angles, allowing you to use the second side as a stand, providing a great experience for watching movies or streaming shows. The powerful laptop has a 10-hour battery life, and has fast charging capabilities, allowing it to charge 80% in just one hour.

Pros
  • Powerful and lasting performance
  • Touchscreen display
  • Flips into tablet mode
  • Pen included for display
  • Good keyboard
  • Good fingerprint reader
  • Upgraded webcam
  • Good battery life
  • Fair price
Cons
  • Dim display
  • Heavy for a 14-inch display laptop
  • Loud fan
  • The underside can get hot at times

Sample Customer Review… As a teacher facing online teaching, I needed a quality laptop with the ability to write on the screen. This laptop is amazing and exceeded my expectations. Speed, storage capability, resolution, and accessibility all ranked as excellent. The ability to use the fingerprint reader to protect unauthorized access and make logging in a quick task is another reason to buy this laptop. It also exceeded expectations during virtual teaching sessions on both Zoom and Google Meet.

Easy to set up and connect other wireless and/or Bluetooth devices. It comes with a digital pen 1. This is not Bluetooth but still is an excellent add-on device not available with most convertible laptops. Battery life is a bit shorter than I had hoped, but still long enough for most users. As a teacher who hopes to be mobile in my room, I had hoped the battery would last for the entire day at high use. I am averaging 5 to 6 hours before I require a charge, but this is high use.

I plan to get a portable power bank so I can remain mobile. I use it to teach 7th-grade math and write on my screen instead of using an ELMO. I am so pleased with this laptop and have recommended it to family and friends. I am not a paid reviewer, instead, I review products when I truly believe in them. Like most money is tight, but this laptop is an excellent purchase and is definitely a bang for its buck!

The 2020 HP Laptop is one of their premium mid-range products. This laptop, designed for students and office goers alike, is incredibly versatile. The computer packs the 10th generation Intel core i5 processor, with an exhilarating 16GB of RAM. 512GB of SSD storage ensures that you have enough space to store all your documents and downloads while maintaining speed.

The computer is updated, with touchscreen capabilities, USB-C ports, and HDMI, which is still used in offices. To ensure maximum productivity the computer also has Windows 10. The computer, described by one Amazon reviewer as “the best bang for my buck”, is slightly more expensive at about $750.

  • Lightweight, which makes it easy to carry around
  • Bright touchscreen display
  • Intel Core 10th Generation i5 processor offers faster performance
Cons

I was expecting an improvement in performance from this 10th gen machine but it was more than I had hoped. It’s a fast, snappy, and responsive machine, especially for the price point.

The touchscreen is responsive and works as expected. The display is vibrant, with nice color and resolution. It’s even an attractive little machine. If you’re looking for something to meet your computing needs but don’t want to break the bank, look no further and just buy it. You won’t be disappointed.

8. Acer Aspire 5

The Acer Aspire 5 is a laptop I have had personal experience with. The laptop has a 15.6” screen, perfect for movies and streaming but also for work- the large screen allows me to use multiple apps and windows at once in order to multitask without losing visibility.

It is also reasonable for gaming; though not decked out, it does have a separately dedicated graphics card- the Vega 8 graphics card, in addition to the AMD Ryzen, and the 256GB of hard drive space. The backlit keyboard is a nice touch. Windows 10 is a necessity in today’s digital world, and this computer has it pre-installed.

  • Lightweight
  • Easy to upgrade
Cons

  • Average touchpad

Sample Customer Review… This laptop is a fantastic deal for the price. The laptop uses the same body as the $500+ Acer Aspire 5 model which is to say it is a fantastic body that is light and compact and very portable. Ram can easily be upgraded and adding a 2.5″ SSD allows for additional memory over the 128GB included on the computer.

The keyboard is comfortable to type on and as a bonus still includes a full Numpad even if it is a bit cramped. The screen is a solid IPS screen and when you consider the price tag is amazing and beats a lot of the more expensive laptop screens I have seen.

I take it to work every day and it doesn’t even look like what it really is (A gaming laptop) it boots Windows 10 in 1 sec, runs everything I throw at it even my old games at max settings (LoL, AOE3, SC, SC2, C3). Buying Guide: Things to Consider When Purchasing Laptops Under $1000

Which is the best: Windows, Mac, or Chromebook?

This might be one of the first questions consumers ask themselves, and there is no answer to which one is the best. It will all depend on what you need most from your laptop. Chromebooks are known to be the obvious choice if you are on a tighter budget, as you can find Chromebooks for prices as low as $300. If you need a laptop that is easy to move around, doesn’t need tons of storage, and will not be using multimedia applications or gaming, this might be the best option for you.

If you are someone that values versatility and will be depending on a wide variety of software, then it might be more interesting for you to check a Windows-operated computer. If you are on a budget, chances are you will not be considering a Mac as these are more expensive laptops. They are still great, especially for the wide variety of multimedia software only supported by Mac and for the advanced communication system within all Apple products.

What about the processor?

Most budget laptops nowadays are equipped with the Core i5 processor, unless you are looking into a Chromebook (which most likely will have an Intel Core i3 or an even slower processor). It is no mystery that the more advanced the processor the better, so if you happen to find a laptop operating with a Core i7 processor within your budget that would be ideal.

Still, it is important to consider that not everyone will truly need an extraordinarily advanced processor. Some of the questions you might be asking yourself are: What will I be using my laptop for? Will I be doing a lot of videos or photo editing? Will I be gaming? Is having a processor that performs heavier tasks more important than the battery life of my laptop?

Do I need a 4K display?

The short answer is “probably not”. Budget laptops are not equipped with the amount of battery life you will need to sustain a 4K display. Unless you are someone that wants to invest in a more powerful machine that is more suited for gaming or for supporting multimedia software (and in this case, you would have to invest in a more expensive laptop anyways), then a full HD will definitely satisfy all of your needs.

Can I really find a good laptop under $1,000?

Absolutely! As long as you pay attention to the specific features that meet your needs, it is 100% possible to find laptops that fit your budget. Paying attention to these details is extremely important even when buying more expensive computers, considering that sometimes manufacturers can be cutting some corners. Consider all the aspects mentioned in this buying guide and you should have no difficulty choosing the best budget laptop for you.

Conclusion

Working on a screen for long hours requires an amazing laptop that you can use but will not harm your pockets. This comprehensive list can help you chose the best Laptop for under $1000 dollars. Hope this article helped you chose your laptop.
