Sample Customer Review… I am using the Expert Power 20ah LifePO4 battery for a portable crossband repeater for search and rescue. The lightweight lithium battery was perfect in cutting down the weight of the repeater. The upfront cost is a bit more than an SLA, but it’s well worth it. The best part is you get ALL 20ahs of LiFePO4, where SLA is maybe half its advertised capacity.
I did a trial run, with the repeater pulling about 4 amps on transmit and .3 amps on standby. The repeater was on and actively transmitting a busy local channel. I expected maybe 8 hours of run time till it got low. It’s been going for 12 hours and is only down to about 60% capacity! I have an Expert Power 18ah SLA and you’d be lucky to run a radio for 6-8 hours before the depth of discharge got to low.
Thanks, Expert Power for a great battery at a great price. It is very well constructed, durable, and I expect it to last for a long time!Read more reviews at Amazon.com.

Sample Customer Review… So far they are great! I haven’t put them under load yet but seem solid. Came very protected (box with Styrofoam inside a box with Styrofoam). They were fully charged upon arrival and had zero dings, marks, scratches, or any sign of damage. I’m using a 24v backup system with solar. They are HEAVY (130lbs) and just a touch more than double the volume of a size 31 battery. They are shorter so they do have a big footprint. Handles were easily removed once they were in place so they have a clean look. Sitting here hoping the power goes out so I can play now…Review from Renogy.

Sample Customer Review… I purchased these to replace the regular lead-acid batteries in a trailer. The fact that these batteries do not have to be vented is a bonus for trailer use. The terminal connections are great for trailer use. Only have had them installed for a month, so long term we will see how the batteries hold up. Used them dry camping for a week, ran the generator for 30 minutes each day to use the coffee maker. The batteries always showed a full charge. Batteries are a little pricey, but so far are worth the money. Batteries arrived well packaged and fully charged. I would purchase these batteries again.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.

Sample Customer Review… I purchased the Pump Sentry backup system for my sump pump (see my review on that page) and am using this battery to provide power in the event of an outage. I had read a review on this particular battery that will provide 20 hours of power in the event of an outage and confirmed the math according to the specs vs other batteries. I feel confident with this purchase and bought a case to enclose the battery for protection. Note: this battery is very heavy and difficult to move in a tight crawl space but is very worth having it as the power supply for outages. So far I haven’t had any outages that required it to “kick in” but I did test it with the Pump Sentry alone and my sump pump worked fine.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.

Sample Customer Review… I bought this as a replacement for my stock battery on my ATV – 2011 Polaris 850 X2. I used the menu on the website to determine the proper fit and model number I would need. When I got the batter and pulled out the stock one I immediately noticed the new battery was almost twice as big as the stock battery. I didn’t think there was any way it would fit until I noticed the removable spacer at the bottom of the battery compartment. I just lifted and removed the spacer and the new battery fit like a glove. The only other issue I had was the pos and neg terminals were reversed on the model I ordered. Just make sure when you order it you have the terminals where you need them. They have different models that you can order with the polarity switched from right to left. I was able to remove some zip ties and get the cables to work just fine in the new configuration so it wasn’t a big deal. This battery seems to have twice the starting power of the stock battery. When I start the ATV it does so with ease even in the coldest weather! In addition due to the larger battery size, I’ll also have a lot more long-lasting power for extended winch runs!Read more reviews at Amazon.com.

Sample Customer Review… I was looking for a generator for power outages at my home. We’re coming into hurricane season, and I’ve got hundreds of dollars of food in my refrigerator freezer that I want to preserve during a power outage. I have a portable gas generator, but it’s quite heavy and must be used outside. After receiving my EcoFlow Delta, I charged it up to do some testing. With the batteries at 100%, I plugged in my full-size (18cf) refrigerator-freezer, and it supplied power for 11 hours, and still had 14% remaining on the battery. It recharged from 14% to 100% in 1 hr, 10 min! Amazing. I can roll out my 2 kW gas generator, to quickly and easily recharge the Delta to keep the refrigerator powered. The Delta can also recharge our cell phones, power up led lights, and make coffee/tea in an emergency. It occurred to me that the Delta could give apartment dwellers a legitimate option for 10+ hours of backup power in an outage. Nothing else like it on the market, at any price. Preserving my food during just 2 prolonged outages will pay for this generator. Keeping cell phones charged, and powering emergency lighting is icing on the cake. Thank you EcoFlow!Read more reviews at Amazon.com.

Sample Customer Review… I recently purchased two of these batteries to run my MPP 2424LV-MSD as a 24-volt system. You will need to have a charger to fully charge these before connecting them in series, otherwise, they will not charge equally. They arrived in perfect shape in about three weeks via FedEx. I really like the metal enclosure, it is very sturdy and reminds me of the old army surplus ammo boxes. The posts are also very sturdy looking and I like the fact that they are relatively close together which minimizes the cable length needed. They come with bolts and washers and there is no concern about getting the connectors good and tight. I’ve only had them a few days but so far the performance has been better than I had hoped for. With two 100 watt solar panels providing a charge (on an intermittently sunny day @ > 90 degrees) I was able to run my 5000-watt A/C unit in my camper for 5 hours at which point the voltage was at 25.9 volts (I believe you could safely discharge to 24.5 volts with no concerns). The average voltage was around 26.3 the overall time. I checked the batteries by touch and they never even got warm (they were in the A/C, about 70 degrees). I am quite satisfied with these batteries at such a good price. If you would like to get further information about how they continue to perform please check YouTube in the near future for a review of my entire system. My YouTube moniker is “SlimSh8E”.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
11. VMAXTANKS 6 Volt 225Ah AGM Battery
The VMAXTANKS 6 Volt 225Ah AGM Battery has a lifespan of 8 to 10 years. It is not necessary to add water or check the electrolyte gravity during the float service life. It does not contain any silica gels or other impurities. The best feature is that it is maintenance-free.
- 9.5 x 7.3 x 11 inches
- 6 Volts
Sample Customer Review… Bought two for a series 12V 225AH DC system. When they arrived the packaging was somewhat damaged but the batteries were fine. Have worked flawlessly. I keep them charged and maintained with either the VMAX 20A charger or 400 watts of solar through a 20A Renogy MPPT charge controller. AC to the VMAX charger is via shore power or portable generator. These are the first AGM batteries I’ve purchased or ever owned and I am totally satisfied with them. Their performance has been consistent and superb in my camper in low-temperature conditions which is when I use them the most for running a 12V heated mattress pad, LED lighting, device charging, and a 400-watt inverter for my laptop. Why 6V golf cart batteries? There are three 2.1v cells in the 6-volt battery. The 6-volt battery has more space per cell and the plates are thicker and will last longer. The 6 volts will be able to discharge deeper than any 12-volt deep cycle. Two 6 volt batteries will give you a lot higher amperage than one 12V battery. AGM batteries? The leading advantages of AGM are a charge that is up to FIVE times faster than the flooded version. AGM offers a depth-of-discharge of 80 percent; the flooded, on the other hand, is specified at 50 percent DoD to attain the same cycle life. The AGM battery is also able to be installed in any orientation and stands up well to very LOW TEMPERATURES.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
12. Universal Power Group UB 12100 Deep Cycle AGM Battery
The Universal Power Group UB 12100 Deep Cycle AGM Battery is maintenance-free, spill-proof, offers continuous voltage, and great general capacity. It is an absorbent glass mat battery and is a good option for those who are solar. They are lead-acid but contain a fine fiberglass mat that soaks up the acid and makes them spill-proof. This battery has a low internal resistance, delivers high currents, and offers longevity. Additionally, the product charges quickly compared to flooded batteries.
It has a maximum of 100 Ah and is a 12-volt group 27 battery. The group number for batteries mentions its physical dimensions, the voltage of the battery, and your post layout and location. A majority of RVs use groups 27 or 24 batteries. This product is extremely sensitive to overcharging. If it happens to overcharge, it can cause damage and shorten the overall life span.
Also, this battery offers 2 to 3 years of service and has 500 cycles at 50% DoD. It is capable of managing various instabilities pertaining to solar energy. These vary to unsteady grid energy, heavy charging and discharging cycles, and improper full recharge. Since this battery is maintenance-free, you can position solar applications in difficult locations without having to worry about regular maintenance.

Sample Customer Review… Some reviewers made an issue of this not being a true deep cycle battery. While it is true that it states on the side of the battery, “Do not deep discharge”, one could take that with a grain of salt. This is not your top-of-the-line deep cycle battery, but is still a much better value and much better built than any comparable flooded battery of the same size. I have beat this thing up far beyond what it would normally be used for. Have been running a fridge and deep freezer during daylight hours and sometimes a dishwasher to offset the electric bill. I have a small (2 panel) solar setup that keeps the battery from discharging completely, then charges back to full each morning before the next cycle. This thing has taken the abuse well and keeps working even after a year or more of this. These types of batteries last about 3 to 5 years even if you don’t use them much, so factor that in. Heavy use will decrease longevity, of course. Still a good value if you know what you can get away with. Would highly recommend it for any purpose where the state of charge will not go below 50 percent most of the time. It will handle a deep discharge but would not recommend this on a daily basis.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
13. Optima OPT8016-103 Batteries
These Optima OPT8016-103 Batteries are a great option for campers that may be going on a shorter trip or on dry camping trips less often. Since some batteries can be expensive, this is a great way to get the power you need without investing a great amount of money. This battery is versatile in the way it will endure multiple weather conditions and work with different small vehicles. This battery is affordable, yet it has a promising life expectancy. The weight of the battery is light as well, allowing it to be moved with one person. Additionally, because the battery is sealed, spills or leaks won’t be an issue.
- 10 x 6.88 x 7.8 inches
- 43.5 pounds
- 12 Volts
Sample Customer Review… This was not my first purchase of this item. I had two previously and have used them for multiple purposes. Right now my latest purchase of this item is serving as the auxiliary battery in my camper van, charged by either the vehicle’s alternator (with a sweet isolator setup so my starter battery doesn’t ever drain from various camper component draw, and also the aux battery charges via alternator while the engine is running). I also have this battery connected to a solar charging system in my camper van, and it performs fantastically. I have actually purchased a second BlueTop to provide more power in my vehicle while I’m camped and running various lights, device chargers, and other electrical components without the engine running.
No question, Optima is not messing around. They make incredible batteries that absolutely live up to the claims made on their website. They even provide instructions on how to restore a “dead” battery after years of use and extreme discharge. That says a lot.
Bottom line: you get what you pay for!Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
Buying Guide: Things to Consider When Purchasing The Best RV Battery For Dry Camping
When choosing an RV battery to use on a dry camping excursion, there are many factors to take into consideration. By carefully choosing the best battery option, campers can enjoy their trip to its fullest potential.
There are different types of RV batteries offered. The most common are lead-acid batteries. These are the least expensive and are best for campers that plan to run a generator multiple times per day. These can last for 2-6 years.
However, other options include sealed AGM and gel batteries as well as lithium-ion batteries. Sealed AGM and gel batteries are slightly more expensive while they do have a better discharge. Lithium-ion batteries are lighter, can last longer, and work well with solar panels. They can last for 14 years. However, they are quite expensive in comparison. Choosing the right type of RV battery for dry camping will deliver the best power, size, and price point for each camper.
Weight and Size
Choosing a battery with reasonable weight and size will be important with limited space on a camping trip. Lead-acid batteries can weigh twice as much as a lithium-ion battery. It’s necessary to take this into consideration when planning to dry camp.
Discharge Depth and Cycles
Discharge depth refers to how deeply a battery is consumed. The more a battery is discharged before recharging will result in a shorter lifespan and can lower the number of cycles it will be capable of. When choosing a battery, it’s imperative to look at how many cycles the battery has at the given depth of discharge.
Amp-hours tell campers what level of electricity will be given during an hour of usage. Typically, RV batteries have a range of 50 and 200 Ah. In order to choose the best battery, it’s essential to determine how much power will be needed. Campers should consider what appliances they wish to use simultaneously in order to determine the perfect Amp-hours. All appliances should take up 50-60% of the battery’s total capacity.
Environmentally Friendly Batteries
Toxic leaks are possible when using lead-acid batteries. A non-toxic option includes lithium-ion batteries that can be recycled after use.
Cranking Amp Measurements
The cranking amp measurement will tell campers the amount of current the battery provides to start the engine of the RV. If planning to use the battery to start the engine, this is an important factor to consider.
Batteries can perform differently in different temperatures and humidity levels. Each battery will have an ideal temperature range. For example, lead-acid batteries tend to not perform in freezing temperatures, sealed-AGM batteries are resistant to freezing, and gel batteries endure high temperatures. This should be considered when choosing the battery to be used at a dry camper’s preferred location.
Battery voltage options include 6V, 12V, and 24V. 6V batteries are popular for dry camping since they are affordable and last for a long time. However, a lower voltage means more batteries will be needed to reach desired power. This can take up quite a bit of space and be heavy. 12V batteries are also an affordable option although they do not last as long.
Dry camping can include terrain that is bumpy or difficult for some batteries to endure. If destinations will include challenging terrain, batteries should be spill-proof and built with quality materials to ensure it is as durable as possible.
Dry camping can be an amazing experience, as long as you have premium batteries at hand. Deep cycle batteries are necessary for RVs when dry camping since they can handle recurring charge and discharge cycles. Lithium-ion batteries are expensive but are great options for people who dry camp more frequently.
Lead-acid, AGM, and gel batteries are satisfactory options for people who dry camp every once in a while and need batteries that serve them well. These options are inexpensive and reliable. Hopefully, you found this article on the best RV battery for dry camping helpful and learned more about RV batteries.
