1. Stanley Adventure Base Camp Cook Set

This is a large camping cookware set intended for a family of four or more. It has everything included for cooking while camping and is a very versatile option. Reasons to buy include that this set is intended for uneven heat application while cooking. As well as the fact that it includes plates, bowls and utensils for four people. Some reasons consumers avoid this cookware set are that it is too big for one or two campers. It also takes up a lot of space when attempting to consolidate its size.

Pros
  • Compatible for large groups
  • Uneven heat application is applicable
Cons
  • Does not consolidate well

Sample Customer Review… What a great cook set. I had experimented with two other cook sets before discovering this one. I camp out of my vehicle and travel long distances. I watched the episode of Expedition Overland when the guys were explaining their gear choices. They talked about this one, so I bought it. It is perfect for the overland explorer who is traveling by vehicle. It is too have for backpack camping.

2. MSR Quick 2 System

This camping cookware set contains two pots, two mugs, two plates and a handle that can be connected to both of the pots included in the set. One of the pots included in the set has a non-stick coating while the other does not, so you can choose which to use depending on what you are cooking. Reasons to buy include that there are measurement marks inside each pot. It is also very easy to clean compared to other cookware sets. A drawback of this set is that it is designed for only two campers, is bulky and on the expensive side.

Pros
  • Easy to clean
  • Made for two people but includes tons of pieces
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Bulky

Sample Customer Review… I got this pan to go with the MSR Flex Quick Skillet. It stacks very nicely and snuggles right into the pan. One pot is non-stick and the nonstick surface is good. Washes easy and I use plastic scrubbie covered sponge with no problems. The cookset only comes with one handle so this second one from the pan is helpful for the second pot. Handle is steady when the pan is loaded.

The whole set is very lightweight. I think it will hold up nicely. The plates/bowls are deep and sturdy. The mugs kept liquids toasty. The lids are nice and snug. The sippy whole is ok, I’d prefer if it was on the other side. The pot lid handle stays cool and the strainer is a good addition. I am very pleased with the set and would recommend it, or the other sizes as meets your needs.

3. Bulin Camping Cookware Mess Kit

The Quechua Hikers Camping SS Cooking Set is made for a family or group of four people and is made of stainless steel. It weighs about four pounds and is one of the best camping cookware sets for feeding a family. Reasons to buy this cookware set are that it is a complete set, unlike many sets on the market today. It has four cups, four sets of utensils, four bowl/plate combinations as well as a pot for cooking. Reasons to avoid this are that it is on the heavier side and there are lots of utensils included that many consumers find unnecessary.

Pros
  • Feeds a family or group of four or more
  • The complete set has all of the pieces a consumer may need
Cons
  • Heavy
  • All of the utensils may not be needed for every camping trip

Sample Customer Review… We purchased these to replace our bulky “leftover” camping cookware. They are fabulous! Lightweight but sturdy and well-made; the handles work well and stay cool. Very compact but large enough to prepare meals for 2-4 people. They are perfect for our 2-burner Coleman stove. I was skeptical about the little tea kettle, but it might be my favorite piece; perfectly balanced and the pour spout works well. I like the non-stick coating, although the stainless option might prove better for the long haul.

4. Terra Hiker Camping Cookware

This easy to use and low budget option is the go-to option for new campers. All of the pots and pans use non-stick material, making cleanup a breeze. The set contains scratch-free utensils and also a rice spoon. Rice tends to be a staple camping food, so this proves invaluable for many meal options.

Pros
  • Inexpensive
  • Lightweight
  • Scratch free utensils
  • Easy to clean
Cons
  • Zero plates
  • Zero bowls
  • Low volume Kettle

Sample Customer Review… Fun cook set. Lightweight and yet has a large pot for meals to share. Love the kettle, perfect for heating water for coffee, tea, cider etc. I personally like that i can have a separate pot for hot water and I can keep it warm in my cozy while making breakfast, and not have to worry about running out of hot water. It also comes with a lot of great accessories for cleaning, eating, and cooking.

5. G4 Outdoor Camping Set

This is one of the most inexpensive cookware sets listed on this blog. Every pot and pan has a silicone coated handle that can fold around the pot making it extremely easy to store. The pans are versatile and can double as lids for the pots. It is a unique low priced product, and has tons of room to store utensils as well as other cookware inside the pots. A reason to avoid this cookware set is that it does not come with any plates or utensils.

Pros
  • Inexpensive
  • Silicon coat
  • Easy to store
Cons
  • Plates and utensils not included

Sample Customer Review… I am a stove and camp pot junkie. With all that gear, I think this is a top rated little camp set. Mine was just the pot and cup/lid (I tossed the loofah sponge thingy). This pot holds either a large or small size camp stove fuel canister, canister support stand, my stove (BRS), cut down spongy and a bandana. I run my long spork on the outside. The spork sticks out a bit, but that’s fine for me.

But what I really wanted to try out was the size of the cup (lid). This cup holds 12 ounces of hot coffee or tea (no other camp set cup lid has that capacity) and the Snow Peak HotLips works as well. So now I can have a hot beverage while my meal re-hydrates. For the price, you can’t go wrong. Cheers

6. Snowpeak Titanium Solo Combo 2.0

The Snowpeak Titanium Solo Combo 2.0 is only meant for one person. It is made of titanium and weighs less than half of a pound. The reason to buy this cookware set is that it is extremely lightweight thanks to its aluminum body. It is well designed seeing as it is a cup and pot combination all in one set. A reason to avoid this product is that it costs about $75.

Pros
  • Titanium and Aluminum base
  • Combination set
Cons
  • Expensive

Sample Customer Review… I’ve used this so many times since purchasing it – it’s a great compact little cookset and stows away very well. There’s enough room inside to fit any boiler you have as well (unfortunately, not the fuel canister unless it’s quite narrow) and due to the black mesh bag it comes with, everything stays together well. It also cools very quickly once cooking is done due to the titanium, so it’s ideal for camping where things aren’t always stable and often need to be moved or improvised when cooking. Highly recommend.

7. GSI Glacier Base Camper Cookset

This camping cookware set is perfect for a large group of people. It is made from stainless steel and comes with 5 different pieces that will last your family a long time. The GSI Glacier Base Camper Cookset is perfect for campers who love to cook. Reasons to buy include that it is very easy to pack, is compatible with fire and comes with handles that lock. A reason to avoid this cookware set is that the large lid does not fit on the frying pan, which poses an inconvenience for many consumers.

Pros
  • Stainless steel base
  • 5 pieces
  • Compatible with fire
Cons
  • Lid does not fit on the frying pan

Sample Customer Review… These pots and pans are EXCELLENT! My wife and I were looking around for a set to take camping with us and we looked everywhere on Amazon for a set that had just what we needed without being too expensive. GSI isn’t exactly known for making cheap things I know but this was totally worth the money! It is lightweight, extremely durable, and heats evenly and quickly.

We used these for a variety of things from cooking rice, to oatmeal, to veggies, and it was great! It isn’t nonstick so make sure you bring a little bit of oil with you on your camping trip. We also love how this stores away because everything nests easily in/on the big pot and then gets put in the little carrying bag. Great little thing to have on your base camp.

8. GSI Outdoors Bugaboo Base Camper Cookset

This cookware set is a great choice for consumers who are in need of both pots and pans. The Bugaboo Base Cookware set is easy to clean and is made of a material that does not get damaged while in storage. This cookware set has a built in liquid strainer as well as a cutting board. It has been proven to turn away consumers because it does not include cooking utensils you may need during meal prep. The cutting board included is a great asset to this cookware set, but it is on the smaller side.

Pros
  • Easy to clean
  • Does not damage easily
  • Cutting board provided
Cons
  • Utensils not included

Sample Customer Review… Wouldn’t trade them at all! Great cooking items. Fast heating. Nothing stuck to them (bacon, eggs, potatoes, bacon wrapped jalapeno peppers, etc). Easy to clean nest together perfectly. Also, when nested, there’s room for silverware and plates. Awesome camping utensils!!

9. Optimus Terra HE Cook Set

If you care about saving space the Optimus cooking set is for you. It contains very few pieces that boils water faster than many other pots on the market. Reasons to buy include boiling water quickly, the pans and pots are a good size and are easy to clean. Reasons to avoid this product is that there are no dishes or utensils included as well as a lack of non stick coating.

Pros
  • Boils water efficiently
  • Easy to clean
Cons
  • Lack of non-stick coating
  • No utensils included

Sample Customer Review… Perfect for camping Optimus products are top notch and I’ve used them for years

10. Winterial Camping Cookware

This cookware set comes equipped with 11 separate pieces and is perfect for cooking meals while camping. The pot, kettle and the frying pan have a non stick coating and the set includes a spoon, sponge, ladle and a bowl. All of the items included fit nicely together inside of a carrying bag that comes with it.

The Winterial camping cookware set is extremely lightweight and affordable. It also comes with a kettle unlike many of its competitors which sets this product apart from other cookware sets. Unfortunately this product has some drawbacks. The bottom of the pans burn easily and the pot handles get very hot.

Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Affordable
  • 11 pieces (includes a spoon, sponge, ladle and a bowl)
Cons
  • Pot handles get hot very quickly
  • Bottom of the pans burn easily

Sample Customer Review… Took it to Glacier and cooked every day over an open fire. The handles were great at not burning our hands. The kettle doesn’t whistle, but it wasn’t a deterrent. The two little bowls were a nice surprise and perfect for us. It all packs down into a little carrying bag and yes, it does all fold back together. It survived and will come back on another camping trip!

11. MSR Trail Lite Duo

The MSR trail lite duo cookware set is the perfect size for two people on their camping journey. It is made of aluminum and weighs under one and a half pounds. Reasons to buy include that it contains a decently sized pot, two bowls and two cups. Avoid this product if you are traveling in a large group.

Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Aluminum build
  • Large pot included
Cons
  • Not intended for large groups

Sample Customer Review… This system is small and light and packs/unpacks easily. The cups hold enough to double as insulated bowels if you should choose. There is also enough space inside the cups to store the MSR folding utensil set. The pot is lightweight aluminum and has a white enamel inside and fits perfectly on an MSR Dragonfly or WhisperLite stove. I would recommend this product for anyone who is backpacking with a partner.

12. GSI Halulite Microdualist Cookset for Two

This camping cookware set is barely over a pound and has a 1.5 liter pot capacity. You may not always need a luxury cookset and this one will provide you with the simplest items needed to get a meal prepped and ready for serving. The Halulite cookset includes pots that maintain good heat distribution while cooking, is lightweight and has a non-stick feature. A reason to avoid this product is that you can only cook your food with hot water and this feature may turn away some buyers.

Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to use
  • Non stick feature
Cons
  • Can only use hot water to cook

Sample Customer Review… They held up really well on multiple camp outs. Easy to clean and nicely compact into a small container inside itself. Love the washing/carrying case it comes with.

13. Sea to Summit Alpha Pot Cook Set

This cookware Sea to Summit Alpha Cook set is meant for two people and is made of hard-anodized aluminum and weighs about 2 pounds. Its design makes it condensed, easy to use, and easy to clean all at once! Comes in various package varieties, with the 2.2 variety pack being the most popular. It is surprisingly on the heavier side for only providing cookware for two consumers.

Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Aluminum base
  • Condense
  • Easy to clean
Cons
  • Heavier side for such minimal cookware
  • 4.2 set is fairly expensive

Sample Customer Review… Been looking to get a cook set for a while and so I took a shot on this one. It’s is a very complete set and is high quality. I was very impressed with its non stick ability. Super important when camping and using stoves that have a tendency to burn to the bottom of pans. It isn’t the lightest set but the weight is acceptable.

We use it for boat camping when we have a bunch of people. I also got the 8in alpha pan which happens to fit right on the bottom of the set. The amount of cookware packed into this set makes it worth it for sure. It’s also very simple to to pack. No magic involved.

14. MSR Alpine 4 Stainless Steel Pot Cook Set

This cookware set is heavy duty and can withstand multiple heat sources, that includes an open flame. It comes with three separate pots as well as compatible lids. Each lid also conveniently functions as a plate. Reasons to buy include that it is a quality, durable set. It also comes with three different pots that can be used on a campfire as an open flame. Reasons to avoid are as follows, there is no frying pan, it is on the heavier side and weighs over 3 pounds.

Pros
  • Quality and durable set
  • Compatible with an open flame
  • Weighs 3 pounds
Cons
  • No frying pan

Sample Customer Review… There are not enough good things to say about this pot set. They nest inside of each other perfectly. I have taken them camping several times and cooked right over the fire. I have had no problem with anything sticking to them and they clean up so nicely.

If you are into ultra light backpacking, I would not recommend these. They are a little on the weighty side, but knowing how well they work, I would sacrifice just to carry these guys. I love my pots and would definitely recommend getting some for your next camping trip!!

Buying Guide: Things to Consider When Purchasing the Best Camping Cookware

Types

There are four major types of cookware one can choose between based on a camper’s specific needs, standard cooksets, mess kits, and individual items.

Camping cooksets typically include one or two pots, with their associated lids, and a frying pan of some kind. These sets are also usually designed in such a way as to be nestable within each other for easy portability.

A mess kit, in addition to everything a typical cook set contains, also usually gives the utensils, mugs, and other extras that you need to eat your meal.  Other mess kits will contain only the cutlery and the plates.  Look at the details of every mess kit to determine if it has the pieces you need!

Finally, there may come a point where you need to make a cookware purchase of a single individual set.  These can take the form of anything specific to the camper’s needs.  These sets will often be small and light enough to accommodate solo and duo campers!

Material

When researching the cookware for your needs, you need to look at the various types of materials used in their construction to determine which one is right for you.  Titanium is arguably the lightest material to work with.  It also manages this without compromising on its durability. While being the best option for backpackers and hikers, its price can be a huge barrier of entry for some. Another thing to keep in mind is that it also doesn’t conduct heat as well as aluminium.

Aluminum is lightweight and inexpensive in comparison to most options. Its biggest drawback is its lack of durability and its ability to react with high acid and alkaline materials if you are not careful. Plus, it can react with some foods with high acid and alkaline content.  Anodized aluminum is the more expensive and more durable upgrade to standard aluminum while still maintaining the lightweight of actual aluminum.

If you are willing to carry heavier cookware, then stainless is always an option.  Inexpensive and capable of being used over fire and gas, stainless steel’s only weakness is that it is sometimes prone to hot spots.  Cast iron is another heavyweight option.  Suitable for fire, charcoal, and gas, this non stick material makes the cookware practically bomb proof.  The biggest downsides would be the weight and the need to reseason the cast iron cookware.

For nonmetal options you have silicone or ceramic.  Silicone is the newest material for camping cookware with the main benefits are its lightweight and portability.  The biggest issue is they are usually packaged with some form of metal base to allow heat conduction, as the silicone cookware should be kept away from any open flame.  Ceramic coated cookware has been a popular kitchen option for a while and can make clean up a breeze.

Cooking Capacity

Cooking for one, two, or an entire camping party can really dictate what camping cookware you need.  Keep close attention to what each set contains and look at the largest pot or kettle it comes with.  The largest sizes can feed upwards of ten to fifteen people.  Others may feed only one to two. The pieces they contain in the cookware sets can also be a contributing factor.

Some have two pots, which can seem great, but upon closer inspection of the full cookware set you may find it only comes with one lid. This can greatly impact your ability to cook with both pots simultaneously. Some of these sets also incorporate the skillet as an alternate lid.  All of these factors can drastically change what your total cooking capacity can be.

Conclusion

There are many different options for the best camping cookware sets listed above and the right one is out there for you. Remember to consider each cookware set’s features and which ones will benefit you. Click on the links for specific pricing and extra information if you need it to make your final cookware set decision.

FAQ

Can you use regular pots for camping?

You can bring cookware from home but its suggested to have a separate set for camping. If you're a regular camper, a separate set of cookware can keep you organized and be used solely for camping. Many camping cookware sets are easier to use for travel as well. They are portable, lightweight, easy to carry, and can withstand weather conditions like rain and snow. The cookware you need will also depend on what you're doing and where you're staying during your camping trip.
