Super Smash Bros Ultimate Tier List

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Tier List

The awe-inspiring graphics, musical medleys, and plethora of characters have enticed gamers to fight it out on Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Our Super Smash Bros Ultimate tier list focuses on the fifth part of the Super Smash Bros series. Nintendo has come far since the start of the series with the Nintendo 64 version—proving that the developers will continue to build on the growth of diverse characters that have added excellent gameplay value and appeal.

Because the Super Smash Bros has been such a well-loved series, the game has evolved, offering over 100 levels from various notoriously known and played games. In addition, Super Smash Bros Ultimate also features over 80 characters and DLC content that has added characters yearly until the introduction of Sora from Kingdom Hearts (another series to love) in 2021.

Here We Go

This Super Smash Bros Ultimate tier list gauges the best characters for competitive playing. We based this list on our thoughts on different consideration factors. We start with the character’s strengths and weaknesses in tournaments, extra attacks/attack power, and the extent of the character’s recovery. We invested quite a bit of time on this list, and our experiences are what we used with this list. When it comes to the ranking system, we understand that everyone’s views are different, and not everyone will agree. (As a faithful fan of the series, I will always be team Kirby because of his abilities, especially in Super Smash Bros Ultimate.)

Did you know that the development of the ranking system stems from the academic grading system of Japan? S is the top tier and signifies that the character is exemplary. The A tier means the characters are excellent. B tier follows A and indicates the characters are good. C tier follows and signifies the character is average. D tier represents that the character is acceptable.

Let’s Talk Characters

So our list is over now; let’s discuss a few characters. Some of the characters became favorites because of what they brought to the game. So let’s smash on!

Joker

Joker is a great all-around fighter. Joker has excellent close range and melee attacks, and he has a swift recovery. After Joker’s special gauge is full, his true persona is activated, he masters zone control. Zone control gives the gamer the chance to fend off enemies and the ability to stand against some of the better melee fighters. However, Arsene (Joker’s persona) reacts poorly to projectiles, which slightly brings down his strength.

Inkling

Another excellent fighter, Inkling, joins Smash Bros from the game Splatoon and has quickly become one of the best characters in the game. She has incredible moves that allow her to buff up her damage when she inks opponents, and later in the fight, she can deal extra damage. Her inking ability allows her to slow down her opponent’s by spraying the ground with ink. Inkling also does not consume ink when super jumping. The biggest drawback to using Inkling is when she needs to regenerate ink, it can be time-consuming and problematic when fighting one-on-one with an opponent.

Greninja

It is easy to see why Greninja is one of the fan favorites (We love Greninja), the elegance of the character’s moves shows in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The pokèmon character’s ability to appear and disappear, dancing around enemies with fast precision, and the throwing stars made from water prove the strength of the character. In addition, he has possibly the best recovery in Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

Ness

He is probably one of the most underrated characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate because he is one of the best choices when pushing the opponent. His good combination and ranged attacks allow him to be unstoppable. However, one of his best moves is his grab attack because he can KO an opponent when they are at a lower percentage level.

Pit/Dark Pit

Pit is a classic, and as an easy-to-use character, he’s a good choice for people still learning to play. He is a character of light, whereas Dark Pit is from the darkness. Pit comes from the game Kid Icarus. These characters are relatively average on the scale of character choices, but we had a lot of fun playing with them both. The signature bow of both characters is a defining feature, and his attacks are more controlled; however, Dark Pit tends to hand out more damage with his attacks.

Mewtwo

Like his fellow pokèmon, Mewtwo is exceptionally agile and has superior air dodging skills. Using confusion or disabling his opponent is his diversion to finish strong with a Shadow Ball. Mewtwo also has a remarkable recovery, and he is challenging to counter-attack.

Kirby

This little pink character packs a lot of punch for his size; Kirby’s strengths lie in speed and tilts, making him one of the strongest in the game. Kirby might have low airspeed, but he has a notable air game that allows quick escapes from his enemies. Kirby’s ability to transform into different tools, extraordinary copying abilities (which make his attacks stronger than the initial opponent attacks), unique weapon action with the infamous hammer flip or final cutter move make him an asset to any smash team.

Ice Climbers

The Ice Climbers duo carry giant wooden mallets in hand to any battle. Ice climbers in Super Smash Bros Ultimate brought a lot of change to the game. Both characters are more expressive. The chain grabbing technique is gone, and an ice shot can damage them if directed back at them. Nana cannot grab now, but Popo can help save her if she is knocked off the stage. The classic Ice Climbers final smash Iceberg also has some new neat features (we will leave that a surprise for you to find out).

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Tier List: Recap

After creating the tier list of brawlers, we hope you understand why characters made it onto this list. Again, we add that not everyone may agree with our opinions, but we hope you will share your views with us. This list contains some of our favorite characters and provides reliable information on the Super Smash Bros Ultimate tier list. We will try our best to keep it updated if new fighters come to the scene and we get the experience to play with those new characters. Until then, we hope you enjoy playing with the characters we reviewed.
