When I started researching I looked at the BabyLock Evolution but was not impressed with the quality of the rolled hem or the price (which was even a sale price!) and actually wound up purchasing an industrial Juki MO-6604 which does a beautiful rolled hem and the price of the industrial, compared to BabyLock – well — there’s just no comparison. This is the machine.It is substantial.With a larger harp area, it is easy to see what you quilt. The table helps support larger items.It has a couple of more steps to thread than my Singer, but it was not difficult. I like the bobbin that loads from the side. The auto trim is neat. It snips top and bottom threads and doesn’t lose the bobbin thread. I am finding this to be a great feature. This is really a workhorse machine. The stitch is consistent and it feeds the piecing very well. The feed dogs take the fabric easily. I am really falling in love with this machine already. I debated on the price, but after quilting a lap quilt, which would have cost over $100 at the quilters, I feel it will pay for itself in no time. The stitches are beautifully even and the machine handled multiple layres of wool easily and negotiated the slick lining with ease. I suspect that I would have been pleased with any of the other machines I considered, but did not test. This machine, however, is everything I wanted and more. It has enough additional stitches for garment sewing and a great bed, walking foot feature and additional features to facilitate quilting. I have had no issues with it, and I purchased in November. You will have to use the manual initially to thread, put the bobbin in, and set up the customizable features like the dual foot pad and the automatic backstitch, automatic thread cutting etc. Changing out the foot feed for straight stitch has a slight learning curve but it’s so worth doing. I love how you can customize the even feed /walking foot feature to get the perfect feed for the quilt sandwich or fabric you are using. I was used to a built in walking foot since I own at Pfaff 7550. The hover feature also takes some getting used to but when putting binding on a quilt it’s a dream. The videos by Juki are subtitled requiring that you read the instructions rather then listening and doing, efficient from a multilanguage standpoint for Jiuki but less than optimal for the user. I’m looking forward to some of the independent sewing machine retailers doing some great videos of how to customize and set up the machine. I haven’t regretted a minute of having this machine!
