Sample Customer Review…I bought this machine over 4 years ago as my starter sewing machine, and it’s still going strong. In that time I’ve made close to 30 quilts, 20 some purses, totes and bags, and about a dozen items of clothing. This machine is so versatile, I’ve been able to do everything I need to on it. It has never needed maintenance (aside from a little oil), and it very easy to set up & use. I have used many YouTube tutorials over the years, and I highly recommend watching a video tutorial when attempting something new.

I belong to a local quilt guild and my quilting friends are always surprised that I use this machine to piece and quilt all of my quilts. I’ve been able to do straight line and free motion quilting on this. Queen and full-size quilts are a bit of a stretch, and I plan to buy a bigger machine, but it can be done on this with a bit of patience. Twin or baby-size quilts can easily be quilted on here.

I also teach bag-making classes with my local guild, and have never had problems getting through multiple layers of interfacing, fabric, canvas, or batting. I’ve even been able to sew leather handles on. You gave to go slowly, but it’s totally doable.

The different stitches are very helpful when making clothing. I don’t have a serger, so I usually sew French seams, but this machine has a serger-like stitch for when French seams aren’t practical. I also have found it fairly simple to sew on buttons and buttonholes. I’m an amateur, but I’ve been able to sew several professional-looking items, which I’ve been able to wear again and again.

Sewing machines are usually a pretty big purchase, and I have plans to buy a $1000 industrial straight stitch machine for quilting later this year, but I would definitely buy this machine again if it broke down and needed replacement. For less than $200 it’s an excellent value.

Sample Customer Review…I’ve been sewing for over 50 years (no, I’m not old, I just started really young). I’ve used Brother, Pfaff, and Singer sewing machines, but Singer has always been my #1 sewing machine of choice as it was my mother’s before me. I bought this Singer to give to my teenage granddaughter to learn on but ended up liking it so much that I kept it and gave my granddaughter my 20-year-old Singer.

This machine has all the features that I used the most often on my old machine plus a few more. My favorite features that this machine has that my old one didn’t, is (1) the self-threading needle, (2) the clear, see-through bobbin case so you always know how much bobbin thread you have left (3) the drop-down needle position feature for easy pivoting around corners, and (4) the thread cutter.

Although I’ve made my own garments for years, I now have a small handbag business. I considered buying an industrial machine because I often sew on really thick fabrics like denim, but this machine easily sews through 4 layers of denim with interfacings! I also make a lot of clothing from knit fabric and love the stretch stitches available on this machine. This machine is a real workhorse and I give it a 5 thumbs up!!

I have no negatives at all to say about this machine except that I wish the storage compartment was a little larger.

Notable features such as the adjustable presser foot allow you to control the amount of pressure you place on the fabric. The Singer heavy-duty 4452 also contains versatile stitches with nearly 110 stitch applications. This gives you endless options when deciding the design of a stitch for projects.

Though the Singer Heavy Duty 4452 is a basic machine since it does not have a lot of desired properties and features that many people seek in a machine. This sewing machine lacks customizable features and accessories.

  • Warranty: 25 years

  • Fast Speed and Heavy-duty Motor
  • Easy to Use
  • Adjustable Presser Foot
  • Versatile Stitches
Cons
  • Basic Machine

Sample Customer Review…This is my second heavy-duty Singer and I can’t sing its praises enough. I can sew upholstery material, leather, several layers of denim, Velcro, or almost anything. I have another machine with more bells and whistles, but I find that it stalls and thread breaks when I do heavy-duty crafts or home décor projects. Not this Singer.

It’s easy to use, versatile, and has all the essential stitches that most people need. It allows you to sew fast and sew right over pins without a hiccup. It’s a little louder and heavier than some others of the same size, but it’s metal and sturdy and doesn’t vibrate. I’m not thrilled with the automatic needle threader, so I don’t use it.

My first one lasted me over 5 years of heavy use. I probably could’ve had it repaired, but at this price, it’s almost as cheap to purchase a new one. I especially recommend it for beginner sewers. Much more reliable than a lot of inexpensive finicky plastic junk in the same price range.

Cons

Sample Customer Review…Wonderful machine – Super solidly built and reliable. Does many different stitches, including (yay) a couple of different cover stitches. Really great (amazing) value for money. I looked at the BabyLock machines – and I decided that I just could not justify spending so many times more, just so I wouldn’t have to learn to thread the thing! So I did a ton of research and found this machine.

So far, about 10 projects later, I am loving it. Yes, like any Serger, it has to be threaded properly, or it stops stitching properly. It took me a little while to get good at the threading (and diagnosing what is going wrong when something did), but now I’m really good, and quick at threading the machine. After you do it a little bit, it’s really not much more difficult than a regular machine.

There are lots of videos around that show how to thread this exact machine, and they help a lot. Also, the machine comes with a wonderful workbook (the thing on a cd) – I suggest going through it stitch by stitch. Especially if this is your first Serger, this machine does a ton of different stitches, and the workbook is amazing at teaching them all to you step by step. The paper book you get is great, too – but it’s more of a summary – a great reference after you’ve gone through the workbook.

Bottom line – after a few weeks with this machine, I’m so so so glad I didn’t drop a couple of thousand dollars on a Babylock.

Sample Customer Review…Oh wow, my machine arrived and I am impressed! I am a Singer girl from way back, but this is a dream machine if you are looking for a workhorse! I held off writing my review until I had put it through the paces. I am not a lightweight, sometimes sewer, I sew daily for several hours a day. I have made clothing, a quilt, repaired denim, and made doll clothes, all since my machine arrived! It handled all without a hiccup! If you are looking for a pretty machine to set in your sewing room so you can say you have one, keep looking.

This machine is not pretty. If you are looking for a workhorse, I highly recommend this machine. All needed dials and knobs are within easy reach to change needed settings for each project, it’s a breeze to thread and wind bobbins, the reverse lever is a dream! It’s right where a serious sewer needs it! I have used the free arm several times! I confess I have not put a zipper in, nor have I used the buttonhole feature but I have had Singers in the past that work the same way so I am confident this will be no exception. Love, love, love the machine! Thank you, Singer and Amazon!

Sample Customer Review…I’ve been sewing since I was a kid, and I’ve always had a basic sewing machine before this one. I finally decided to try something more advanced and this was a perfect step up for me; not too simple, not too complicated. I love the plethora of stitching options, the many accessories that came with the machine, and the extension table.

I’d never had a machine that would cut my threads for me, so that has been my absolute favorite feature…no more having to trim endless threads! Other favorite features for me are the ability to determine my maximum speed, as well as sew without the pressure foot if I so choose. It is very durable. In the short time, I’ve had it, I’ve pieced 2 quilt tops, put together one quilt, made 2 duffle bags, a skirt, and several other projects, and have had no problems with it at all.

It is relatively quiet plus it is easy to thread. One thing I would have never known from the description of the product: the user manual is quite informative, which is something I haven’t had much luck with on previous machines. This is completely worth the price!

But I discovered that they came with the product. At first, I did not know how to set the dials in order to sew with it.

But after watching the CD that comes with it, I learned how to successfully use it. I was so delighted with the automatic needle threader. It took me a few tries but I finally learned how to use it. Sample Customer Review…You can add me to the list of beginners who is absolutely delighted with the ease of using this machine. I bought this machine because I was tired of spending time and money bringing clothes to tailors for simple repairs and wanted to start fixing them myself. I had never used a sewing machine in my life and was up and running with this one in about an hour just from reading the instructions (which, for me, included learning what a bobbin is and how to thread one!).

The machine provides a variety of straight and zig-zag stitches, as well as a blind hem stitch and the ability to do buttonholes. It also comes with everything you need to start sewing except thread. Finally, the instructions include pictures and are easy to follow.

For those concerned about quality, the stitching looks straight and even in a variety of fabrics. I’ll also add that my mom has been sewing for 40 years and she liked this machine, even though it is more “basic” than hers. It has a handle for carrying but is heavy enough that it stays put on the table when you’re using it, even with denim. I’ve only had it a few months so I can’t speak to longevity yet, but it seems solid. All in all, this has met my expectations and then some.

Sample Customer Review…I’m a beginning sewer and I’ve had this machine for four months now. So far I’ve made a shower curtain and two pillowcases with a cotton/poly blend and 1 thin cotton pillowcase, plus fixed canvas curtains that were ripped in my home. I’ve also played around with all of the neat stitches, testing them one by one on some remnant cloth, and I’ve even been able to figure out the button-hole feature with the help of the manual.

It was my first time switching the foot and the needle, but I was able to read the directions and do it in less than half an hour, plus a little extra time for practice before I did it on the actual material. The buttons are easy to use and the stitches are simple to switch with the push of a button–I was worried about this since I’m not great with technology–but it really couldn’t be easier.

My experience has been nothing less than fabulous with this machine. The settings are easy for a beginner to use, the extra length of the add-on arm is great for longer items, and it comes with all the attachments I need when I’m quilting (I’m a beginning quilter but haven’t used this machine for it yet–I completed my first quilt on an awesome old borrowed Kenmore), and I’ve found that the straight stitching is just as good as the fancy stitching when using regular materials.

  • Machine Weight: 20.5 lbs
  • 250 Stitch Applications
  • 200 Embroidery Designs
  • Warranty: 25 years
  • $525 worth of Included Accessories
Pros
  • Sewing and Embroidery
  • Computerized LCD Machine
  • Easy to Use
  • 250 Stitch Applications
  • Quiet
  • Many Accessories Included
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Heavy

Sample Customer Review…The SE300 handled basic sewing and see test embroidery just fine. It did take some tweaking and finding out what I’d been doing wrong for setup. Thread tension, especially in embroidery is a challenge for getting it right so the stick and thread (upper and lower stitches, thread, and bobbin) “mesh just right to yield a nice tight stick that works well. Backing of course on most any embroidery machine is an absolute requirement.

The auto-threading and auto-tension features of this machine worked admirably. Swapping threads and bobbins won’t be a challenge once-so-ever with this machine!

This machine is quiet, seems smooth and solid when it runs, and fairly easy to change and route the thread and get the bobbin set up correctly.

Remember, practice makes perfect and for a new machine, if it is giving you a hard time, take a break or even come back to it the next day. Often you just need a breather, especially on a new machine that you have to learn all of its twerks and what makes it happy for settings for a specific task. That comes with time, experience, and patience and for a new machine, give it a chance to prove itself. Things will fall into place as you learn about your new machine.
