While camping is a fun activity and it might be tempting to just wander around the great outdoors for hours endlessly, you’re going to have to stop and take a break eventually. Maybe you just want to relax around a campfire with friends and family. Either way, sitting on the cold hard ground just isn’t going to cut it. For situations like these, you’ll want to have a comfortable, sturdy camping chair. That’s why we’ve carefully chosen the 15 best camping chairs that we think will be perfect for any camping trip!
Top 17 Best Camping Chairs
1. Kelty Low Loveseat Chair
The Kelty Low Loveseat Chair is a unique chair made for people who prefer to sit together. It was built with durability in mind since it features a frame made of steel and a seat made of very thick fabric. With these quality materials, the Kelty Low Loveseat is also incredibly sturdy. It can support up to 500 lbs. Also, since this seat is so wide and spacious, some users have even recommended buying this chair for large dogs!
Unlike some competitors that provide very flimsy carrying cases that are frustrating to use, the Kelty Low Loveseat Chair comes with an easy-to-use carrying case. Instead of stuffing your folded chair into a tight carrying case, the carrying case that comes with the Kelty Low Loveseat can be wrapped around the chair for easy storage. This design for the carrying case allows it to be used for carrying and moving other things such as firewood.
However, a consequence of being made with high-quality materials and being a large two-seater is that the Kelty Low Loveseat is considerably heavier than most camping chairs at 15.5 lbs. This may make it troublesome to transport. The thick fabric also makes the Kelty Low Loveseat not breathable.
The Kelty Low Loveseat is currently hovering around $95 to $107 on Amazon so it is expensive. It might be cheaper to just buy two separate single-seat camping chairs.
Sample Customer Review…So comfy and sturdy. I love how both cupholders have a separater that you can pull out so you can fit a drink and phones and such in them. It’s thick and super comfortable. When I went on a camping trip my friends kept trying to use mine instead of theirs because it was so nice. I got a ton of compliments. I can tell it’ll last year’s too. It’s extremely sturdy and well made. Totally worth the investment. The carry straps are a great plus too. It’s a little heavy, but being able to carry it like a backpack makes it easy to move around.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
2. GCI Outdoor Freestyle Rocker
If you don’t like the idea of sitting completely still and you use a rocking chair at home, you don’t have to leave all of that behind when you go camping. The GCI Outdoor Freestyle Rocker Chair is the perfect camping chair for those who like to rock back and forth while they sit. The GCI Outdoor Freestyle Rocker also features a firm backrest and a firm seat.
The Freestyle Rocker has a steel frame that can support up to 250 lbs and it has a mesh backrest for breathability. It has a carry handle for easy transportation but the chair itself is heavy at 12 lbs. The GCI Outdoor Freestyle Rocker Chair is also still pretty big when it’s folded down.
The Spring-Action Rocking Technology makes the chair feel smooth as it’s rocking but some users have still reported that it starts to squeak after prolonged use. However, GCI offers a limited lifetime warranty so you could contact GCI’s customer support if you discover this problem.
It’s a bit pricey at $60 on Amazon but if you’re looking specifically for a rocking camping chair, the GCI Outdoor Freestyle Rocker is definitely a great option to consider.
Sample Customer Review…One of my best purchases I am going to have to say. I have had lumbar fusion surgery, so it is very difficult to sit comfortable on outdoor furniture.
This chair arrives in a box and you just pop it out and unfold! No assembly or stress. It sits very comfortably and is solid. If you want to rock, it moves smoothly. If you choose to kick back and prop your feet up, no problem. If you are the kind of person who like to rock back in a regular chair, this is your chair without damaging a regular chair.
I have two for our camper and I am going to order FOUR more. Two for my 89 year Mom. One for her front porch and one for her back porch. The other two are going to be for my house!
VERY HAPPY here (and I do not usually do reviews) and it is well worth the modest price!!!Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
3. ALPS Mountaineering King Kong Chair
The ALPS Mountaineering King Kong was named after the famous Hollywood Gorilla for a reason; it can support up to 800 lbs. Since it can support that much weight, it was built extremely rugged. It has a stable steel frame and the fabric is reinforced with padding. All of this padding also makes the ALPS Mountaineering King Kong one of the most comfortable camping chairs. This padding also serves to keep you warm during cold nights. That being said, King Kong isn’t very breathable so it might not be the best choice for summer camping trips.
The King Kong features a cup holder and a side pocket on each armrest so that you can keep your drinks and small items nearby when you’re relaxing on this monstrous chair.
The King Kong is one of the heaviest single-seating camping chairs on the market at 13 lbs. Still, King Kong’s massive weight is understandable since other competing camping chairs aren’t built to support nearly as much weight.
Sample Customer Review…This is a great chair with many positive features. First and foremost, we wanted to get several chairs to use in conjunction with traveling in a Class C RV, whose largest storage bin door is quite small. This chair is great for that because it folds up very nicely into a small circumference bundle, which is then able to fit into its storage bag with a drawstring tie at the top. When completely put away, the entire package has a diameter of 9″. Perfect for our small bin doors of only 23″ across. As for the chair itself, depending upon what you are looking for, my husband and I both find it extremely roomy and comfortable. He is 5’10” tall and approximately 160lbs. There is still plenty of room on either side of him, if you are a larger person. Bear in mind that this is a camping chair, not a cushy patio chair, but even still, the design of the sling is such that once you sit in it, you won’t want to get up! The fabric is heavy, and doubled, so that it is quilted. While I would not call it padded, it feels as though it has some padding because of the quilting. This is so much more comfortable than most of these camp chairs that have flimsy, thin, cheap fabric, which make you feel as though you may fall through them if you sit down just a little too hard. It feels very secure, and the fabric envelops you, while still feeling sturdy.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
4. YETI Trailhead Camp Chair
The Yeti chair is extremely high quality and comfortable. With such a durable frame, this chair holds you up while also gently conforming to your body with its flexible materials in order to keep you relaxed and supported. This is a larger and a little heavier chair but still quick to fold and comes with a padded carrying case that makes it much easier to travel with. The open material is also more airy and won’t stick to you on a hot day. As mentioned, this chair is strong, able to hold up to 500 pounds, and bound to last several years. While pricey, you are paying for high quality comfort and stability.
Sample Customer Review…You can’t go wrong with a chair made by Yeti. I was tired of buying other chairs all the time. This chair is the best investment I have made. Yes, it is a little pricey but worth it. We glamp a lot so we are always using chairs with the trailer. We take it with us when we go flying our remote control airplanes so we have a comfortable place to sit. It is SUPER easy to get out of – I’m sure you are tired of struggling to get out of a chair too – THIS IS THE TICKET!!! Very comfortable and it comes fairly high up my back so I can lean into it and it won’t make my back hurt from a weird angle (I’m fairly tall and most chairs suck for my back). Love my Yeti chair!Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
5. Coleman Camping Chair with Side Table
The Coleman Camp Chair with Side Table has an interesting and unique design with its built-in table. Before we talk about the side table, let’s first talk about the chair itself. The Coleman Camp Chair with Side Table features a padded backrest and padded armrests for a comfortable sitting experience. It has a steel frame that supports up to 225 lbs. The fabric of the seat is also weather-resistant so you can be sure that the chair will handle the rough conditions of the outdoors.
As for the built-in side table, you can use it for anything that you can think of. However, the side table does seem fairly small. The cup holder is built into the side table so you lose some table space because of that. The side table can be flipped up when you don’t want to use it and keep the chair more compact.
The Coleman Camp Chair with Side Table is a bit pricey at $55 on Amazon. For that price, it might be a better deal to buy one of Coleman’s other camping chairs and buy a separate table. Still, if you’re interested in a hybrid camping chair and table, the Coleman Camp Chair with Side Table might be the chair for you.
Sample Customer Review…I read a lot of the reviews before I bought these chairs. I checked FakeSpot which gave the reviews a solid A rating. I ordered 6 of the chairs to use on my balcony to watch 4th of July fireworks with friends. Only 3 arrived in time but that’s another story (UPS problem, not Amazon). The chairs were really easy to set up – pretty much you just open them up. It took more time to remove the tags than it did to open the chairs. They are comfortable. The seat doesn’t sag the way the chairs in a bag do – and that means that sitting down and getting up for this old overweight guy was really easy. That alone makes these chairs worth their weight in gold to me. The side table works great and meant that each person had their own place to sit their drinks and food. The cup holder held everything including wine glasses. Bottom line? Great chairs that really do live up to the great reviews.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
6. Coleman Big-N-Tall Camping Chair
The Coleman Big-N-Tall Camping Chair is built specifically in mind for larger people. It features an exceptionally large seat and large feat. Those two features combined with its durable strong frame allow the Coleman Big-N-Tall Camping Chair to support up to 600 lbs. In addition, the seat of this chair is deep so it’s comfortable for tall people.
The Coleman Big-N-Tall also features a draining seat that lets liquids easily pass through if the seat gets wet. Additionally, there is also a water-resistant sleeve on the right armrest that can protect your electronics from liquids.
The Coleman Big-N-Tall is currently $50 at Amazon and Coleman backs the chair with a 1-year limited warranty.
Sample Customer Review…I really like this chair! I’m very curvy and the regular folding chairs always feel so flimsy and like if I made a sudden movement the chair will break. This chair though? Super sturdy, lightweight, didn’t budge at all! I just used this yesterday for the first time at the pool and honestly I was so at ease and comfortable! I love the drink holder and the clear zip pouch for your phone/money/etc on the arms. Easy to fold/unfold with little to no effort. The only downside (and this didn’t bother me as much but other reviewers are noting) is that the carrying bag has “big and tall” text printed fairly large across it. Honestly, I don’t care but I can understand that some wouldn’t want that printed so promptly on their chair bag. Good news is that its only on the bag, not the chair! For the price and peace of mind knowing the chair is sturdy and my hips aren’t getting squished out like regular chairs this is a total win for me. Will buying 1 more so we have a set of 2!Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
7. Kijaro Dual Lock Camping Chair
The Kijaro Dual Lock Camping Chair is one of the most popular camping chairs on the market due to its unique dual-locking feature. This allows its legs to be locked while it’s open and while it’s closed. Unlike its competitors who lack this feature, the Kijaro Dual Lock will never fold and collapse while you’re sitting in it and it will never unfold when you want to keep it closed during transportation or storage.
Like its competitors, the Kijaro Dual Lock comes with a carrying case that has a shoulder strap for easy transportation. Unlike its competitors, the Kijaro Dual Lock also has a built-in shoulder strap on the back of the chair so you can just pick up the chair and go if you prefer.
The Kijaro Dual Lock is made from diamond ripstop polyester and mesh for breathability. It supports up to 300 lbs of weight.
A complaint that people often have with cheap camping chairs is that their seats sag too much, making them uncomfortable. A key feature of the Kijaro Dual Lock is that it has a firm seat. This allows the chair to give you a comfortable experience and sag-free support.
Sample Customer Review…I have tailbone issues and back issues and was looking for a camp chair that I could sit in for a long period of time without becoming uncomfortable. My husband is VERY tall and fairly heavy and needed a chair that was taller with a good back height AND was sturdy enough to carry his weight. We both wanted chairs we would not sink down into and that we wouldn’t have trouble getting out of. When I found Kijaro, it was the answer to both of our needs. I found a place to purchase them locally and went out that very day to buy two. We just recently purchased our 9th and 10th chairs. Only ONE has broken over the years and that was because two adults with a combined weight of about 450 pounds were horsing around in it. NOT the chair’s fault. We have several at our seasonal camp site and when visitors sit in them, they always ask what they are and where we got them. I will never buy any others!Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
8. ALPS Mountaineering Rendezvous Chair
The ALPS Mountaineering Rendezvous is much lower than other competing camping chairs. Its low seat combined with its reclined design allows you to comfortably rest your legs along the ground. This is perfect if you plan on camping on a beach where there is soft sand all around to rest your legs, but this chair might not be as comfortable if you’re camping somewhere with harder ground.
The ALPS Mountaineering Rendezvous is durable and sturdy with its TechMesh Fabric and its steel frame. These materials make it slightly heavier than its competition at 6 lbs but the chair supports up to 300 lbs of weight.
Unfortunately, since the Rendezvous is using a low-seat design, it doesn’t have traditional camping chair armrests. This means that it doesn’t have any cup holders either.
Sample Customer Review…It’s sturdy and well designed. The low profile is great for the beach or just stretching out your legs. Low profile chair for low profile camping. Just what I was looking for. The smaller size will make it easier to stow and carry. The color (rust) is great and on sale, good for me. The vent back mesh is not flimsy and if we get some rain, water won’t pool in the seat. I still have a garage full of camp chairs, but this will be the go to gear. Recommend highly.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
9. Coleman Quad Chair
The Coleman Quad Chair is currently the #1 best selling camping chair on Amazon, and for good reason! It features a cooler pouch on the left armrest that can fit up to 4 cans. The right armrest has a typical cup holder. Also on the right side of the chair is a side pocket that you can use to hold your personal items while you relax in the chair. The armrests are adjustable to fit your needs. The chair also has a cushioned seat and backrest for maximum comfort. Users have also pointed out that the seat is large enough so that everyone of any size can sit in it comfortably.
The Coleman Quad Chair can support up to 300 lbs and has a steel frame but some users have reported that the frame starts to rust if it is not taken care of.
The Coleman Quad Chair is currently priced at $35, which is close in price to the affordable camping chairs that we’ve mentioned. For the comfortable design and all the extra features that the Coleman Quad Chair comes with, it is a much better value than any cheap, generic camping chairs.
Sample Customer Review…I was looking for a chair that would be easy to carry, strong enough to hold me and with at least one little accessory. My husband and I are both big people, and I needed a chair that would hold us, sitting upright, and not low to the ground so we can sit comfortably and watch our grandkids ball games. (we are pushing 60 and overweight) This chair is very comfortable. It has not only a cup holder, but a small mesh flap that will hold a cell phone, attached to that another flap for a book and/or magazine, AND on the opposite side, a small cushioned “cooler” pouch that will hold at least 2 soda cans or water bottles. These chairs are great, so glad I ordered 2!Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
10. ALPS Mountaineering Escape Chair
The most defining feature of the ALPS Mountaineering Escape is its built-in footrest. This footrest is adjustable so that anyone of any height can comfortably put their feet up when they’re experiencing the great outdoors. This footrest is also removable so that you can use it as a regular camping chair if you like.
The backrest of the Escape is also special because it is so tall. This tall backrest gives you proper back and neck support when you’re putting your feet up. It is so comfortable that users are saying that sitting in this chair with the footrest attached is like laying in a hammock.
The ALPS Mountaineering Escape is built with a steel frame but it, unfortunately, doesn’t support as much weight as some of its competitors. The Escape only supports up to 225 lbs, which is less than some of the other camping chairs that ALPS makes. Even so, the footrest and hammock levels of comfort make the ALPS Mountaineering Escape a great buy.
Sample Customer Review…I am sitting here in my Alps recliner at my campsite a year after I bought it congratulating myself for the hundredth time for making this choice. I sweated over it researching in the extreme. So many chairs have people who love them and many who hate them. I don’t see how anyone would not love this chair. I am picky and have back issues. I have to put up with some discomfort in most indoor and outdoor chairs. This chair is heaven. The hammock part of the seat is just right so that my weight pushes the canvas into my back for lumbar support. When I need to sit upright I snap the footrest clips and it drops to the ground. I camp a lot in my small RV. The chair stores neatly under my bed. It’s almost too good. I’m so comfortable, I sometimes have to force myself to go do the outdoorsy things I came to do. It doesn’t get better than lounging with a book at the campsite. I often say if this chair broke, I would order it again immediately with overnight shipping to the campground. But it seems as new as the day I bought it.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
11. Trekology YIZI GO Portable Camping Chair
The Trekology YIZI GO Portable Camping Chair is another ultralight camping chair. In terms of design, it is very similar to the MOON LENCE Outdoor Folding Chair. This design provides excellent lower back support and makes the chair very portable.
Like the MOON LENCE, the Trekology YIZI Chair weighs about 2 lbs. The chair is made of 600D polyester and has an aluminum frame just like the MOON LENCE. They both can fit in backpacks and carry-on luggage. What makes the Trekology YIZI different from the MOON LENCE is that the Trekology YIZI can support up to 300 lbs while the MOON LENCE can only support up to 242 lbs. Additionally, Trekology sells a sand cover for their chair separately that prevents the legs of their chair from sinking into soft grounds such as sand, grass, and mud.
The Trekology YIZI Chair is currently $40 on Amazon while the MOON LENCE Chair is $33. If you’re deciding between these two chairs, the Trekology YIZI’s higher weight capacity and compatibility with Trekology’s separate accessory may convince you to buy Trekology.
Sample Customer Review…This is an excellent backpacking / camp chair. I’ve spent hours sitting in it comfortably. It’s very lightweight and I can fit it in my smaller day bag. I bought it in a bundle with the sand cover, which works perfectly and fits neatly into the included carrying bag. The sand cover makes a big difference and really should be included with the chair. I really prefer chairs with armrests and this has none, but it’s still really comfortable. Despite the light weight, so far the frame appear to be durable. I’m a 250 lb man so I try to be careful with it, based on other reviews about breakage. It’s definitely not a chair you can just flop into, regardless of how much you weigh. But so far I haven’t noticed any problems. Set up is a little difficult at first, but once you’ve done it once it’s much easier. It comes with instructions and Trekology has videos online. Set up the frame first, then the optional sand cover for the feet, and start putting on the bottom part of the seat. You have to sort of pull the frame and the fabric towards each other at the same time; pulling only one or the other will not work. The seat has loops near the pole inserts that make it easier to pull onto the frame. Overall, this is a fantastic chair for someone who wants a simple, lightweight and comfortable place to sit.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
12. Coleman Broadband Mesh Camping Chair
The Coleman Broadband Mesh Chair has one of the most basic designs of all the camping chairs that we’ve looked at so far. It doesn’t have multiple cup holders, an extra storage pack, a cooler pouch, or anything else fancy. It simply has one cup holder and a mesh backing for breathability. The advantage of missing all the extra features is that it comes at a significantly lower price than most of its competition at just $25 on Amazon.
It’s not as durable as its competition since its fabric isn’t very thick but it still features a wide seat. Users have also said that it’s not too comfortable since its backrest is so upright. However, if you don’t see yourself camping very often and just want to get a chair so that you can sit down during the few times you do go camping, then we definitely recommend the Coleman Broadband Mesh Chair.
Sample Customer Review…This chair is a bit more substantial than I had envisioned — sturdier and heavier. That said, it is also very comfortable, a good choice if you want to sit for hours. Good back support, nice height, folds in seconds. I normally carry the chair in its bag, slung over my shoulder, for a few city blocks while I walk to the park. This can get a bit heavy for me, but I am a small woman. Overall, very good design and craftsmanship. A++++Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
13. Tommy Bahama Backpack Beach Chair
The Tommy Bahama Backpack Beach Chair is primarily made for beach trips, but nothing is stopping it from being an excellent camping chair. The Tommy Bahama Backpack Beach Chair can recline into 5 different positions. One of those positions is completely flat, meaning that you can use this chair as a mini cot. It even features an adjustable pillow so that you can rest your head comfortably and take in the air of the outdoors.
As its name suggests, the Tommy Bahama Backpack Chair can be worn like a backpack since it has two built-in shoulder straps. It also has a very lightweight aluminum frame. These two features make it easy to carry when you’re walking long distances.
The Tommy Bahama Backpack Chair also has some extra features such as a cooler pocket to keep drinks cold, a storage pocket, and a cup holder that also has a pocket specifically for phones.
Sample Customer Review…This chair puts all the relaxation back into going to the beach, while eliminating all the usual fuss! And here’s why: Switching to a new position on this chair is a breeze, which I’ve found to be a pain on a lot of cheaper chairs. It might seem like a simple feature to highlight, but who wants to fight with their chair constantly? Not me. The REAL feature that made this chair worth it though was the back pack feature. This, along with the pockets, made going to the beach enjoyable again. I no longer have to lug a giant bag down the street. Now, I just pack up my chair, throw it over my shoulders and go. When I get to the beach, I simply unpack and enjoy. Lastly, the rust proof feature. I’ve only had this chair for a few months now, but living on an island everything rusts, and quick too. I’m happy to report I have had no little rust spots pop up on this bad boy. And I’m looking forward to the longevity I’ll get out of this product due to this feature. PS. fits larger gentlemen as well. Happy to report that my large man loves his chair as well. I think it’s actually gotten him to come with me more because of the new found ease and comfort. If your hesitant to buy this because of the price, I get it. But don’t, do yourself a favor, buy this chair and enjoy it for life. Don’t put yourself through the stress of having to buy a new chair next year. Thank you Tommy Bahama, you’ve earned yourself a new returning customer.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
14. AmazonBasics Portable Camping Chair
The AmazonBasics Portable Camping Chair is one of the most affordable camping chairs on the market at around $30. It features a beverage-cooler pouch in the left armrest that can keep up to 4 cans cool. For open drinks, there is a cup holder on the right armrest. It also has a storage pocket that can be used to hold other items you may have. The two strips of nylon mesh fabric on the backrest also help to keep you cool while you sit in it. The backrest is also very tall to provide excellent back support.
The AmazonBasics Portable Camping Chair has a rugged steel frame, but some users have reported that it is not as durable as other competing camping chairs. The chair also only supports up to 225 lbs. However, the chair is backed by a 1-year warranty from AmazonBasics so you can get it replaced or repaired if you run into problems concerning its durability during your first year of use. For its low price and 1-year warranty, the AmazonBasics Portable Camping Chair is a great value.
Sample Customer Review…This a great camping chair for this price! So far I’ve had two of them for a few months and have only good things to say about them. The seats are comfortable and wide, the cup holder is mesh and deep enough to not have your drink or bottle stick out too far where it can be knocked out easily. Sturdy frame, easy open and close, instead of a second cup holder, there is a convenient insulated zippered pouch to store a few extra drinks in! All it’s missing is some built in bug repellent and a place to store your phone/keys/etc. Good buy and I’m definitely satisfied with this purchase, constantly getting compliments on them.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
15. NEMO Stargaze Recliner Luxury Chair
This chair definitely sets itself apart from others due to the way it’s built. With a mesh material hung above the frame, this chair has the ability to rock back and forth. It also consists of a tall back, which is able to cushion your neck and head. You can also choose to recline or stay upright depending on how you decide to position yourself as it will automatically readjust to you.
The synthetic material closely mimics climbing gear, making it feel durable while also lightweight and small when folded. It also dries extremely quickly. There’s a built-in cup holder and phone pocket for extra storage. If you’re looking for a sturdy chair that can also function as a recliner, hammock, and rocking chair, the NEMO is probably the way to go.
Sample Customer Review…I normally wouldn’t spend this kind of money on a portable chair… but OMG – LOVE this chair. Its so comfortable and SO EASY to put together. Literally less than a minute and its done. No figuring out what piece goes where – everything is connected, just have to pop it in place. I love that it both rocks and reclines. I was also worried that it might feel “rickety” and unstable but so far no issues and I am far from being a twig.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
16. Quik Shade Adjustable Canopy Folding Camp Chair
The Quik Shade Adjustable Canopy Folding Camp Chair eliminates the need for a separate umbrella. Instead of fumbling with an umbrella when you’re trying to relax in your chair while camping, the Quik Shade Canopy Chair will protect you from the harsh sun with no problem. The sunshade can be adjusted in a number of different ways so that you can block the sunlight no matter which direction it’s coming from.
The Quik Shade Canopy Chair has a durable steel frame but it only supports up to 225 lbs. The fabric of the chair is made of a strong 600 denier polyester. Additionally, this fabric is water and stain resistant so your chair won’t look dirty even if it takes a spill.
Sample Customer Review…This chair worked great at the beach – not only for providing the extra shade – we also used the top to set our cell phones, towel and other small items. The top also provided a shield against the wind and could be adjusted to lean forward or tilt to the side by adjusting the height on one side or the other. Pretty sturdy for the money – Easy to set up and fold up. No problem with getting it in or out of the case. Pretty comfortable for a folding chair at this price! I like that it has two cup holders. I am happy with this purchase!Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
17. MOON LENCE Outdoor Folding Chair
The MOON LENCE Outdoor Folding Chair is one of the lightest camping chairs on the market coming in at just 2lbs! It’s so small that it can be thrown into carry-on luggage or a backpack with no issues, so it’s perfect for those who like to pack light when camping. The included carrying case makes the chair even easier to transport. Unlike other bulkier camping chairs, the MOON LENCE Outdoor Folding Chair can easily be unfolded in less than a minute.
The seat is made from 600D Oxford cloth and mesh so that the chair is breathable. The MOON LENCE’s aluminum alloy frame can support up to 242 lbs. These materials make the chair easy to clean and it is recommended to just wipe the chair with soap water.
The MOON LENCE Outdoor Folding Chair is also a great value because it is currently priced at $33 on Amazon, which is very close to other competing affordable camping chairs.
One downside of the MOON LENCE Chair is that it doesn’t have any armrests unlike most of its competitors. This also means that it doesn’t have any cup holders. Even so, not having armrests contributes to the overall lightness of the chair so it’s hard to complain about their absence.
Sample Customer Review…This chair is awesome! It’s lightweight (hugely important for my camping/backpacking trips), packs down small, and feels sturdy. Most of all it is affordable ($32 at time of purchase). I actually looked at the REI flexlite and this is quite comparable in terms of weight and build quality – only this Moonlence chair is half the price! When leaning back, I feel confident it won’t fall back, unlike most chairs of this form factor. I will say, however, that you have to be careful getting up. You have to hold the chair down with your hands as you get up to prevent tipping forward. I am considering buying another one if this holds up long-term. Overall you can’t beat it for the price! Hope to have this for many camping trips ahead.Read more reviews at Amazon.com.
How to Choose The Best Camping Chairs
Before you buy a chair, you need to know what you’re looking for in a camping chair. We’ll list some things you’ll need to look out for when choosing the best camping chairs.
Do you need a chair that can support a lot of weight? There’s absolutely no shame in being a large person and there are many chairs designed for large people in mind. Camping chairs that you might be interested in are ones with wide seats, ones that have locking mechanisms, or ones that simply have a really high weight capacity. Additionally, camping chairs with steel frames tend to have the ability to hold more weight than camping chairs with aluminum frames.
High or Low Seaters
This all depends on personal preference. High camping chairs have their seats high above the ground, which is like a regular chair. Their backrests are usually more upright so sitting in them will be like sitting in a typical office chair. Low camping chairs have their seats just a few inches off the ground. Their backrests are usually a little more reclined so sitting in them will give you more of a lounging experience. A disadvantage of low camping chairs is that they might be harder to get out of for elderly and larger people. Both types of chairs can be comfortable but not everyone feels this way so choose one that’s best for you.
Weight and Portability
If you’re taking a camping chair with you when you go camping, chances are, you’re going to have to carry it or transport it somehow. If you want an ultralight camping chair that can be thrown into your backpack while you walk around a campsite, we’ve listed some on our list below. It might be useful to know that camping chairs with aluminum frames tend to be lighter than camping chairs with steel frames.
If you’re looking for a heavy camping chair with tons of padding for comfort, we’ve got those on our list too. If you’re concerned about portability, then you’ve got to consider how bulky each chair is when it’s folded up. Don’t worry though because we’ll be mentioning all of this when we review each camping chair on our list!
Some camping chairs are going to have mesh woven into their seats and backrests and some chairs aren’t going to have any mesh at all. Chairs with mesh are much more breathable, meaning that they let air pass through to keep you cool. This is beneficial if you’re camping during the summer or if you’re camping somewhere very hot in general. However, the mesh isn’t going to be helpful if you’re camping somewhere very cold. Chairs without mesh tend to retain heat much better. This makes them better for colder environments and chilly nights.
Do you need a chair with a high backrest? Tall people might need a taller backrest so that they don’t feel like they’re constantly slouching. However, having a high backrest doesn’t just benefit tall people. A camping chair with a high backrest could provide neck support in addition to back support for people of all shapes and sizes.
This is another feature that depends on personal preference. Based on our research most people seem to prefer having a firm seat because it provides more support. Because of this, most camping chairs that have firm seats advertise that they have “sag-free support.”
However, we also discovered that tall people might actually prefer seats that sag because it allows them to take more advantage of their camping chair’s backrest. Some people simply like saggy seats because they don’t feel as tense while sitting in them. If you’re a taller person or if you enjoy the feeling of sinking into your chair, you might want to consider a camping chair without a firm seat.
Durability and Sturdiness
If you’re planning on using your camping chair often or planning on keeping it for a long time, you’ll want to know what your chair is made of. For each of the chairs that we could find the materials list for, we commented on the quality of its construction in our review. We also took note of reviews from users who own the respective chairs. Camping chairs with steel frames tend to be more sturdy and durable than camping chairs with aluminum frames but this isn’t always the case.
Some camping chairs might have extra features such as cooling pouches, extra storage compartments, multiple cup holders, etc. You might be thinking that having all these extra features will significantly drive up the price of any camping chair but we’ve included some relatively inexpensive camping chairs with these extra features on our list. If you’re not interested in any of these extra features, we’ve got you covered too!
Having the best camping chairs can greatly elevate your camping experience. Whether you’re roasting marshmallows, catching up with friends or family, taking in the fresh outdoor air, or taking a nap, you won’t have to worry about a sore back or cramped legs if you have the most comfortable chair for you.
