1. Everlit 250 Piece Military Survival Kit

Complete with a military grade outline EMT grade bag, the Everlit 250 piece Military Survival kit combines 241 pieces of equipment designed to work for first aid and is complemented by 9 well-rounded tools for survival in the wilderness. The bag should count as a tool of its own. Compiled with waterproof technology (1000D nylon), this bag is extremely durable. The MOLLE bag allows for all items to be readily accessible.

Looking at the first aid tools, the army veterans who designed this kit passed over OSHA guidelines in order to make their product not only safe, but effective. Some of the items in this bag include bandages, glow sticks, scissors, a poncho, and a heating blanket.

This heating blanket is a crucial component separating this pack from others; if you get lost in the wilderness for an extended period of time, the blanket allows you to stay comfortable and safe from hypothermia. The 9 overall survival tools include a knife, whistle, and compass.

Despite having 250 products, this kit is incredibly light, weighing only 1.9 LBS, so it won’t hold you back when biking, climbing, or traveling by kayak. The product also comes with a 60-day return policy to insure your investment. If you want a product that even the professionals approve of, the Everlit 250 Piece Military Survival kit is one of the best survival kits for you.

Pros
  • Durable and portable
  • Waterproof
  • Military veteran approved
  • Great for natural disasters
Cons
  • Weak, cheap flashlight

Sample Customer Review…Great emergency kit at an amazing price! There are a lot of useful first aid items and survival gear such as a flashlight, glowing stick, emergency blanket, etc. Everything is packed into a very compact pouch, and yet there is still room for additional items if needed. This kit is very ideal as a carry-on for backpacking, and having one at home or in the car will come in handy during urgent situations. Aside from the variety of tools included in the kit, the quality of the tools and items are great as well. I personally like the flashlight very much since you can adjust the radius of the light beam that comes out of the flashlight. Overall, this survival first aid kit offers great value at an unbeatable price. I would highly recommend purchasing this first aid kit!

2. Complete Earthquake Bag

When hiking on the West Coast, there are so many beautiful sights. There are also prevalent dangers when out in nature during a natural disaster. Earthquakes are a common occurrence on the east coast and should be prepared for accordingly. With the Complete Earthquake bag by Redfora, you can anticipate and respond to earthquakes. This bag is built to support two people for multiple days out in the wilderness. This kit includes food and water.

For food, there are two 3,600 calorie meal replacement bars. In terms of water, there are 24 water pouches and a hydration bag that includes a straw. The pack also comes with 24 water purification tablets. The pack includes many first aid resources including band-aids, tissues, and a trash bag for waste.

For overnight capabilities, the bag includes a tube tent capable of lodging two people with hand and body warmers, two handheld flashlights, and Mylar sleeping bags to ensure warmth. If the weather goes south, the kit is equipped with ponchos for rain protection.

For utility purposes, this pack includes a 30-hour candle, phone chargers, and a personal radio. Additionally, there are facemasks, goggles, and a sewing kit available. Overall, this pack is one of the best survival kits because it’s built to withstand almost anything nature can throw its way.

Pros
  • Two-person tube tent
  • Water purification tablets
  • Many lighting options
Cons
  • Only one pair of gloves
  • Only one pair of goggles

Sample Customer Review…As a healthcare worker and a longtime San Franciscan, I am a little embarrassed to admit that I have NOT been prepared! Stumbled upon this company called The Earthquake Bag, and decided to get on board. I am really impressed with this bag! Comes fully equipped not only with the essentials but also with some pretty sweet gadgets (my favorite is the 4-in-1 flashlight/radio/siren/cell phone charger). I feel like a modern-day MacGyver and actually had to refrain myself from deconstructing it for recreational use/camping. But in all sincerity, I am really excited to have this in my home and feel legitimately prepared if faced with a natural disaster. As an aside, The Earthquake Bag is a really cool company, they have great customer service, they are humble in their mission/values, and I love their commitment to giving back both through service and donations to disaster relief. Highly recommended!

3. EVERLIT Complete 72 Hours Emergency Survival Kit

From the most heavy duty adventures on planet earth, the Everlit complete 72 Hours Emergency Survival Kit is built to support you. This kit has everything a hiker needs to support themselves in the wilderness. Similar to the 250 item kit, the 72 hour edition steps things up another notch.

This pack is complete with food and water that lasts up to five years on its shelf life. This includes two packs of 3,600 calorie meal bars. For water, there are 24 purification tablets capable of making twenty five quarts of water drinkable.

This survival kit includes two hundred pieces of first-aid resources to treat most minor injuries that occur. The Molle tactical backpack is extremely durable and waterproof for year-round hikes. If you are out at night, the kit is fitted with a three-in-one-hand crank flashlight that also works as a radio and phone charger. In the survival gear, there is an emergency shelter, thermal blanket, and a Recon Medical Gen 3 Tourniquet.

This tactical backpack was created by veterans who know what it takes to survive the harshest of conditions. With many zippers and pocket compartments, this bag is incredibly organized, making it one of the best survival kits out there. Everlit also provides a 60-day return policy on all of its products, so you return it if it is not suited for you.

Pros
  • Quality tools
  • Affordable price
  • Compact, efficient design
  • Created and tested by military veterans
Cons
  • Only one blanket
  • Low quality flashlight
  • Dull knife

Sample Customer Review…The kit basically provides everything that I can think would be needed in an emergency. Emergency water and food are manufactured recently this year and good for five years. Extra water purification tablets are provided just in case more water needed. A good bag of first aid supplies might keep me alive before taken to the hospital. I like the 3 in 1 hand-cranked flashlight, radio, charger the most. Thought it was a cheap item, but I am wrong. The quality is very good and it works properly. No battery needed to use them, just simply grab the bar and start to crank it. Tools and safety protection items are included for different emergency needs. I am going to add more of my own stuff to it since the bag still has a lot of room. Overall, this emergency kit offers great value and an unbeatable price.

4. JUDY Mover Max

The JUDY Mover Max holds survival supplies for a family of four for 72 hours in a condensed, 15-pound bag with straps and a waist belt for easy transport. The waterproof casing means you don’t have to worry about inclement weather ruining your supplies, and its orange pigment allows for high visibility in the event of emergency situations. The kit divides its contents into three distinct types: tools and first aid, warmth and safety, and food and water. Tools and first aid include supplies like a hand-crank radio, flashlight, biohazard bag, and quick-dry towel. As for warmth and safety, be sure to take note of the whistles, glow sticks, ponchos, and dust masks. Food and water consist of seven food bars and 14 water packets.

While the kit includes four rescue blankets, it does not account for any other shelter needs. Otherwise, JUDY consulted Certified Emergency Managers while creating this kit, so it’s approved by experts.

Pros
  • Easily portable
  • Supplies for four people
  • Durable, waterproof container
  • Supplies organized into user-friendly categories
Cons
  • No shelter supplies
  • Lacks more unique survival tools like a fire starter or fishing line

Sample Customer Review…We put together an emergency preparedness plan this year as we live in a seismic and fire-prone area of California. Yes, almost all of California fits that description. This Judy backpack was the perfect addition to our emergency earthquake plan (emergency fire plan, too) as most plans call for having a wide range of supplies (tools, hand-crank radio, water, food, glow-sticks/torches, ponchos, etc) ready to go at a moment’s notice. Rather than buying all these supplies separately, trying to organizing them in an efficient manner, and then finding a waterproof bag to pack them in, I just bought this Judy emergency preparedness backpack kit; easy and it saved me time and money. Bonus: the backpack quality is much better than expected. Reminds me of bags I used when whitewater rafting or scuba diving. It has a little extra room for other odds and ends beyond what was provided, too.

5. Monoki First Aid Survival Kit

No products found.

The Monoki First Aid Survival Kit is a great option for hikers and campers on a budget who want quality, compact survival gear. Don’t be fooled by the kit’s small 8” by 5” size–it packs a punch with 241 pieces, including ample first aid supplies and a variety of other survival necessities. For injuries, the kit includes materials like medical gloves, cotton swabs, a first aid blanket, antiseptics, and gauze. With tools like a fire starter kit, fishing line, wire saw, and multitool, you’ll be prepared for any situation your adventure throws at you. On top of that, the kit’s container is waterproof and allows for easy storage in your hiking bag.

The tradeoff for the Monoki First Aid Survival Kit’s attractive price and user-friendly size is that it lacks longer-term supplies like food, water, sleeping bags, or a tent. This kit works great for short-term hiking and camping adventures where you don’t anticipate food, water, and shelter to be obstacles.

Pros
  • Compact
  • Wide variety of tools and supplies
  • Great addition to other emergency kits
  • Affordable
Cons
  • No long-term survival supplies

Sample Customer Review…This is the best all-in-one kit I have ever come across–and I’ve been looking for 10 years. The tools are not top quality, but they are good. The multi-tool is very small, but has all the tools built in and comes in its own nylon holder. The compass is on a carabiner and works well. The best thing is having everything in one place. The case is very good and the zipper works well. I added water purification tablets and disposable thermometers, but everything else you could need short-term is there. The cotton-tipped applicators are on wood sticks which makes them usable for fire-starting too. Put some paracord around the ring handles for the wire saw and it will be great without hurting your fingers. They even come in a re-sealable plastic bag that could double for a water container and which keeps the kit clean and protected. They’re well packed. Monoki makes other kits with less in them, but the tools are not as good in my opinion. I like having the fishing kit in its own container inside the kit. Even the fire rod is good and long enough to be easy to use. I bought one (at a lower price) and liked it so much I came back and ordered 10 more for everyone in the family. These are more than worth the price. I recommend them to everyone.

6. Ready America 70280 Emergency Kit

The Ready American Emergency Kit is a great option for a couple’s hike for up to three days. This kit is special for its value at such a low price of $40. While this kit is a bit more basic, it does include enough food and water to eat multiple times for three days.

The food and water included is ensured to last up to five years without being opened. Despite not having very many pockets, the kit is very easy to get supplies out of quickly. The bag containing all the resources is waterproof and rip resistant.

The Pack also includes a first aid kit that has 33 different types of bandages to ensure safety if something happened while hiking. For safety purposes, this pack is fashioned with two light sticks that can last up to twelve hours apiece. If the hike experiences inclement weather, the pack includes two ponchos and two pairs of gloves. If there is debris from a natural episode, there are masks at the ready to ensure proper breathing.

What this pack is missing compared to more expensive kits is that there are no climbing supplies included. Also, this bag does not hold a safety blanket, so this bag cannot be depended on for overnight help. Overall, the pack is great for early hikers trying to learn new trails, which still makes it one of the best survival kits for beginners.

Pros
  • Great first aid gear
  • Emergency water included
  • Spacious pack
Cons
  • No tools included
  • High price point

Sample Customer Review…Fantastic product. I bought one for a friend and brought it to her during a party. When I started taking out each and every product and explaining the usefulness of them, everyone was so impressed that they either asked me where I bought it from to buy it themselves or asked me to buy it for them. Even with all the products the bag comes with, I was impressed that there is still a lot of space to put clothes and personal items in the bag. The material is well done. It seems water-resistant. Easy to put on in a hurry. Thankfully, I have not yet used the bag/products for an emergency, so I have not tried the food. I would add more first aid items to it, like bandages, scissors, alcohol swabs, and a utility knife would be good too.

7. Taimasi Survival Kit

The Taimasi survival kit is an incredible feature backpack and one of the best survival kits, as it has many of the components of an upper-level backpack, while still remaining well under $100. The kit itself is lightweight and extremely convenient, fashioned with many straps and pockets to hold items. The equipment is water-resistant and capable of shock absorption.

In terms of the survival tools, the kit is conditioned with a folding knife, a wire saw, and working gloves for chores. Two interesting features of this kit are a parachute cord and a sleeping tent, including instructions to put together your makeshift shelter. In the first aid kit, there are 45 items including disposable gloves and tools that fold into the small kit.

One feature of this kit that is noticeably missing is food and water. If using this gear, plan accordingly because there are no water tablets or straws, so you must bring your own. This pack also has capabilities off of the trail and may be a good option to keep around for the unanticipated car breakdown or power outage.

Pros
  • Very inexpensive value-wise
  • Lightweight and convenient
  • Water-resistant
  • Shock absorbant
Cons
  • Pack feels cramped
  • Only one pair of gloves
  • No food or water

Sample Customer Review…I was very impressed with this survival kit. The first thing that caught my attention compared to other kits was the bag holding the supplies was a true tactical molle pouch versus just some regular zippered bag. It included the velcro for patches along with the American flag and the first aid cross patch. This kit has everything you would expect to find in a survival kit, like all the standard items and then some, including an emergency shelter, pocket knife, fire starter, fishing line, and even a multitool with utensils. I couldn’t believe how many different things could fit into one small pouch. I would consider it a bargain for all you get for your money. A great value compared to kits of similar size.

8. Premium Family Emergency Kit by Sustain

The Premium Family Emergency Kit is the perfect safety pack for those going on a weekend getaway. This pack has all the necessities to be healthy on the trail. Equipped with enough food to last up to 72 hours for up to four people, all the sustenance needed is included.

This kit has 4 Sustain survival water straws. This means that users will be able to drink from any body of water which is important since clean drinking water can be difficult to find in the wilderness. Additionally, these packs contain basic first aid resources with directions on how to administer treatment if first responders cannot arrive in time.

Sustain promises that its products are top of the line in quality and remain above or equal to any competitor in its industry. This bag also includes light source options for darkness and a fire starter including kindling. Additional items include a LED lantern, SnapLights, and a ferrocerium rod.

The negatives of this bag are that it can be very expensive–almost $300. The food included is also perishable after 5 years. Despite this, the Premium Family Emergency Kit is stocked full of items to get you through a weekend outdoors.

Pros
  • Excellent assortment of food
  • Versatile, multi-use backpack
  • Vast variety of gear
  • Also can be used as camping supply kit
Cons
  • Heavy
  • Some unnecessary items

Sample Customer Review…Just received the Comfort 2 backpack and am very pleased with its contents. I appreciate all the light sources, but especially the water filtration Mini and the ferrocerium rod. I added a multi-purpose hand crank/solar radio that can charge my iPhone and still have room to add necessary medications and a few items of clothing. There are so many pockets which is helpful for organizational purposes. The 1st aid kit is just as stated – basics only – which might be great for most but as a nurse, I will add a few more things. The bag is a little on the heavy side, but I am carrying food and water for a couple of days in addition to all the other supplies. I like that the backpack is long so that you can rest the weight against your entire torso and not just against your upper back and shoulders. Sure, I could have put a bag together on my own cheaper, but have I? No. This was quick, easy, convenient, and worth my peace of mind that it is done, especially in view of the crazy unexpected weather systems across the country. I am very satisfied with my order.

9. Weyland Survival Kit

In terms of a basic survival kit that has many important components and is affordable, the Weyland Survival Kit is top-notch. This kit is a throwback to the grizzled man/woman surviving on his/her own.

The first thing you see when opening this kit is a serrated knife. Features include a tanto grip, a hook end, and a pointed glass breaker butt end to ensure stability, making this knife near indestructible. Additionally, this kit includes a sheath, compass, and fire starter for nighttime.

Despite being a smaller-sized bag, the kit also includes wire cutters, a flashlight, a signal mirror, and a paracord bracelet. The limitations of this bag are that there are no food or water options. Typically their bags at least include water tablets which may be more necessary than the large knife.

Overall, this kit is made for those who are very experienced in outdoor activities. Beginners may need to look for a more instructed option on the market.

Pros
  • Strong, versatile knife
  • Emergency whistle included
  • Multi-use space blanket
Cons
  • Weak, short-life flashlight
  • Missing an emergency shelter

Sample Customer Review…Purchased the Weyland Kit when it went on presale. I was surprised when it showed up earlier than promised. (Always a nice bonus.) As an avid outdoorsman and hunter, it’s nice to see that someone put the time into putting together a quality kit rather than just a bunch of cheaply made, barely usable items in a “nice” case. I keep it in the truck for potential emergencies. In Georgia, there’s no telling when you may be stuck for a few days in the woods on a hunting trip gone wrong. Along with my other supplies, the items in the kit will fill the need. Looking forward to the zombie apocalypse now….. just kidding. Well done Weyland.

10. S.O.L Survive Outdoors Longer Traverse Tin Survival Kit

If you don’t want to break the bank on an over-the-top survival kit, the Survive Outdoors Longer (S.O.L) kit can be the perfect option. For roughly ⅙ the price of other survival kits, this 6.25 by 4 by 1.5 inch kit weights only a bit over 6.1 ounces. Obviously, this kit does not provide the breadth of resources as the other kits on this list, though it can be a good insurance policy for a quick overnight in the wilderness.

This survival kit includes water purification tablets that will purify up to one liter of water at a time. There is also a storage bag that can withhold excess water. The pack also includes a lite fire striker that is able to produce over 4,500 sparks and is waterproof.

Additionally, there is an emergency blanket that can hold up to 90% of the user’s body heat. The blanket is also capable of stretching considerably to cover 650% more surface area then the package it comes out of.

You can also display your location up to a mile in surrounding areas with the mini slim rescue howler whistle. The issue with such a small kit can be that it doesn’t hold any food or nutrients.

Pros
  • Very inexpensive
  • Lightweight
  • Includes multiple water purification tablets
  • Whistle for emergency signaling
Cons
  • Lack of cordage or wire
  • Made with lower quality materials

Sample Customer Review…I love this kit and I think everyone should have at least one. I don’t camp or hike, but I do live in the Midwest and sometimes the winters can be harsh. I put the kit in the car because you never know when there would be a breakdown in bad weather. There’s a lot that they fit in this small container, which is good for if you hike. It won’t take up much room in a backpack but it carries a lot of stuff that you really need if you encounter a problem. I really like that it comes with water purification tablets, a way to start a fire, and a blanket. I hope to never have to use this kit but I’m reassured that I have it just in case.

11. EMDMAK Survival Kit

The EMDMAK survival kit is another very affordable option for a new hiker. In fact, this item is the cheapest on this list. The contents are included in a waterproof case made from stainless steel. Included in this package are an array of work tools such as wrenches, can openers, and blades. For survival purposes, this kit includes a flashlight, a whistle, and a compass. For overnight adventures, the kit includes a firestarter that is waterproof.

This is a great set to complement other items being brought on the trail. The set includes an additional carabiner and first aid kit with over twenty items for support. Not included in this set are food or water items. Additionally, this set does not come with any sort of warmer or shelter device. Overall, this option is truly for those who are going on a basic trip and need basic insurance of safety.

Pros
  • Compact and small size
  • Great assortment for the price
Cons
  • Cheaply made
  • Not water-resistant

Sample Customer Review…Has good items for the cost and has really useful items for surviving out in the wild.

Buying Guide: Things to Consider When Purchasing Survival Kits

Location

Every survival kit should contain the basics, like first aid materials, a flashlight, a good knife, a firestarter, and a compass. However, each hiking environment presents different challenges, so you should make sure to consider what weather or natural disasters are most common for your hiking region–for example, a hike in the desert won’t require a waterproof tarp. Choosing a survival kit that specifically addresses the needs of your hiking setting allows for more space in your backpack and a smoother journey.

Length of Journey

The length of your hike will dictate how much food and water your survival kit should include and what overnight gear, if any, it should have. If you are going on a hike with multiple people, like with your partner, family, or friends, the survival kit should accommodate their needs for the length of the journey as well.

Durability

Survival kits must withstand a variety of situations, and usually a variety of environments, so it is important to invest in a kit that is built to withstand your caliber of hiking. Considerations like the kit’s container (hard shell or soft canvas) can impact how long your kit will last and how it will hold up in emergency situations. Choosing a kit that fits the durability you need will ensure that you spend wisely and enjoy an adventure without any tool or accessory malfunctions.

Unique Additions

Survival kits with unique tools or supplies might offer an unexpected use during a time of need. Such additions might be emergency glass breakers, wire saws, or fishing gear. Innovative inclusions in your survival kit could make all the difference while out on a hike or camping trip and can make your kit stand out.

Size

The bulkiness of your survival kit affects the amount of space you have left for other essential supplies for your adventure. Deciding between a small, bare-bones kit, a bulky, fully-equipped kit, or something in the middle depends on the space you are willing to dedicate and the intensity of your hike or camping trip. The key is obtaining all the supplies you need in the most compact container possible.

Value

Deciding on the budget for your survival kit depends on the balance between the money you are willing to spend and your own peace of mind. You might be content to purchase a cheaper option and risk a lower quality, or you might decide to invest in a tried-and-true kit that will stand the tests of time. Either way, a survival kit is supposed to ensure your survival–so choose wisely.

Conclusion

Overall, picking the best survival kit can be tough as there is a wide range of kits for the variety of hikers who will utilize them. The unique thing about these kits is the fact that they can advance as you feel more comfortable in nature. The main goal of these survival kits is to make you prepared for anything that comes your way. With that being said, good luck to you and your future hiking endeavors!
