1. Race Ramps Sports Ramps

These ramps come with a bonus, and that is that they are specifically designed to not scuff up the garage floor as you use them. These are perfect if you intend to use them with sports cars like Miats, BMWs, among others since the 16.7-degree incline is intended for this type of vehicle. Their limits are 1,500 pounds per ramp for a maximum width of tires of eight inches.

They’re made of heavy foam material which provides good clearance as they are light and wide enough to maneuver to your benefit. The large base grips onto the ground and provides security and stability, preventing slips as the vehicle moves forward or backward.

Specifications

  • Has a 16.7-degree incline for sports cars and those with short front ends
  • Lightweight

Sample Customer Review…I have used multiple pairs of automotive ramps in my lifetime. From metal ones made in the ’60s to today’s “cheapo” plastic ramps, you can find them at Target or Walmart. To date, this is the ONLY ramp that I have not noticed a sag or break after using them. There are ramps rated for 35,000 lbs that broke the 3rd time I used them. To date, I’ve used these ramps approximately 10 times with not so much as a hiccup.

I will be recommending these to family and friends, and I typically would not go out of my way to recommend a brand to anyone in person, but stop wasting your money on “cheapies”. It’ll save you money in the long run!

2. Trailer-Aid Tandem Tire Changing Ramp

This ramp is good for any vehicle, but it was designed for Trailers in mind. In total, they can hold up to 15,000 pounds in weight together. They are made out of a really strong polymer material making them safe and sturdy to use. In the case of storage, they are small enough to store virtually anywhere making them also easy for transportation. These ramps are made for any user who is on the road and needs to change a tire really quickly.

Specifications

  • Small 4 ½ inches incline
  • Lightweight
  • Water and rustproof

Sample Customer Review…If you own a tandem axle trailer, this thing is a must. I used mine several times until the bolts at the bottom holding it in place finally gave way. I wish they would’ve lasted longer, but I think it was my fault for not securing the wedge on the concrete better the last time I used it. I have used this several times to change tires that had blown out on the road and it is so much better than jacking up the trailer, which feels unsafe and I never was quite comfortable with.

I like it so much I bought another to replace the one I broke and will treat this one a little better than the last. I will say that I believe the last one gave me enough utility to justify its price before it gave way. Don’t leave home without one.

3. Black Widow PSR295 Ramps

Those who own larger vehicles, including trucks, SUVs, vans, and large sedans, can rely on the Black Widow ramps to support their car during lifting. Since this ramp set provides a 7-inch lift, you’re able to perform any maintenance on the underbody of your vehicle with ease. Although made out of lightweight plastic, Black Widow ramps are able to withstand heavy weights without balking because of a support mechanism that allows them to distribute weight evenly onto the platforms.

On the surface of the ramps, the grid pattern mimics that of a tire tread so that it offers extra traction and safety during lifting. There are also rubber footings on the bottom of the ramp so that it doesn’t slide around your garage floor while using them.

Specifications:

  • 35.5” L x 12” W x 8.5” H
  • Maximum capacity of 16,000 pounds
  • Made out of high-impact plastic
  • Weighs 19 pounds

Sample Customer Review…These worked great for changing the oil on my car (only one use so far). The ramps did not slide across the smooth cement garage floor, so it was easy to drive the car up onto the ramps. The clearance was JUST enough to fit under the bumper of my 2015 Toyota Camry. I like the fact that the lifting height is about 6.5 inches — not so high as the steel ramps I used previously (that no longer work for modern cars). There was no evidence of strain on the ramps, but I did slide a couple of spare tires mounted on steel wheels underneath the car’s floor reinforcement rails as a safety backup.

4. RhinoGear Vehicle Ramp

This ramp is perfect as it gives you convenient access to your vehicle’s underside. It is durable and sturdy and comes with an internal support system that provides a wide stance, giving you unmatchable strength and balanced distribution of your vehicle’s weight.

It’s made of a patented polymer material, making the structure reliable. The ramp is compact, yet the robust meaning is great for all kinds of vehicles like SUVs, pickups, trucks, cars, and vans since it holds up to 12,000 pounds of gross vehicle weight.

This ramp is easy to use and when not needed, pretty easy to store away. The base is made of non-skid material which helps prevent tires as wide as nine inches from slipping off.

When in use, make sure not to put too much power or speed as you put the vehicle in place as many have commented it can drag them forward. Other than that, it is a pretty easy ramp to set up and provides enough height to let a five-gallon bucket of space between floor and car.

Specifications:

  • The only resin ramp certified by PALD
  • Non-skin CoreTRAC
  • Wide tire width
  • Has a 17-degree incline for lower vehicles
  • Safe saving design (Nestable)

Sample Customer Review…These are great because they are fairly lightweight but yet have an awesome weight capacity. I recommend putting some grip tape on the ramp part because the plastic gets slippery if your tires are wet but other than that, these are awesome. They do take up some space in the garage because they are not stackable.

If they made them stackable it would take up half the room which is nice but they are much better than the old heavy steel ramps and they tend to slide a little when you pull the car up so be careful with that but if you’re on asphalt it is pretty stable. I ALWAYS put a couple of safety jack stands whenever I am using ramps just in case because you just never know…safety first! You won’t go wrong though if you get these ramps. Good price for a good product!

5. BISupply Vehicle Service Ramp

The heavy-duty plastic set is made sturdy enough to carry the weight of vans, SUVs, and pic-up trucks. Each ramp holds up to 4,000 pounds of weight and lifts vehicles 6.3 inches off the ground, meaning it gives you enough space to work freely all while working with your tools and supplies side by side. The width of the ramps is 11.5 inches each, meaning it can hold up heavy cars and extra-wide wheels.

The best thing about these ramps is that, even if they carry heavy weight, they do not reflect it as they are so lightweight you can move them and store them at ease. The surface has texture, and the base comes with pads, meaning these ramps won’t move or skid around the area during use. The only downside is that they do not tell you the weight limit and that they work best only on flat surfaces.

Specifications

  • Weight only 8.7 pounds each
  • Has a 6.3 inches incline
  • Durable plastic and a textured surface for traction

Sample Customer Review…I bought these ramps to make oil changes and similar work easier and safer. They elevate the car enough to get under it comfortably but without the difficulty and hazards of jacks. I bought two pairs to raise both ends of the car evenly so fluids drain and refill at the correct levels. These particular ramps with their 6-1/2″ lift are ideal for me. Higher lifts raise my two SUVs too much to clear my garage overhead and lower lifts are not adequate.

6. Nicky Nice Solid Steel Auto Ramp Set

At a reasonable price, these solid steel auto ramps hold up to 6,500 pounds together, meaning they hold up each, 2,000 pounds. As a bonus, they come with a powder finish that prolongs usage and both are 35 inches long. This ramp is perfect for car owners who require small routine maintenance or repair.

Their steel core makes them reliable and durable, and the powder coat finish prevents corrosion. The surface is covered with holes that help with traction as the vehicle is being lifted or goes down the ramp. These holes are perfect as they prevent tires from slipping and causing accidents.

Another great feature is the safety ribs on each side which prove to be helpful as the vehicle is reversing off the ramp as it provides an extra layer of safety.

Specifications

  • Powder coating finish
  • Weight limit of 6,500 pounds
  • Has an 8 inches incline
  • Tire width limit is 9 inches

Sample Customer Review…I was surprised by how big and thick these were. They seem much more substantial than my old ones and look better than the ones you see at your AutoZone-type stores. These things are nice and wide which allows for my large truck tires to fit on them comfortably and provide ample amount of room now to allow me to change the oil to my truck.

7. Electriduct Heavy Duty Rubber Curb Ramp

This ramp is among the strongest as its weight limit together reaches 20,000 pounds. This makes it perfect for any type of car, especially for camper vans and other heavier vehicles.

They are made from an industrial-grade rubber material, making them perfect and strong for your needs. Previously tested with heavy vehicles like a 32’ RV, has proven not to dent or deform with usage. A downside is that to be so strong, they both weigh 25 pounds each.

When in usage, it won’t bulge and the solid grip on the vehicle’s wheels will be enough to prove its safety. The base is made to also grip the surface where it stands, making sure that your vehicle has enough sturdiness as it stands upon the ramp. It reaches 5 ⅛ inches of height, not making it the tallest. Another downside is that the rubber has a strong odor and can leave it in the area for a prolonged time.

Specification

  • Made of solid industrial rubber

Sample Customer Review…I ordered the 5″.2 ramps hoping that there wouldn’t be much of a difference with my 6-inch tall curb. So I pulled them out of the box then set them where needed, and guess what. they matched right up to the curb with no difference in height at all. They didn’t even budge at all as I drove my 6 thousand pound trailer right over them without any signs of stress.

These are very strong, and very well built. I would buy these again.

8. Scepter 08226 Ramp Set

The Scepter ramp set is highly affordable and is a great buy given that it’s sturdy as well, which is proven by its ability to withstand 12,000 pounds, making it ideal for lifting medium-sized vehicles. The distribution of weight is assisted by the arch that runs through the center of the ramp. Due to its lightweight, this ramp set makes it easy to set up and take on the go.

On the surface of the ramp, there is a grid design that assists in encouraging any dirt, water, snow, or ice to come off of your car’s tires. This tread design also provides extra traction that your tires can grab onto which increases the safety lent by this ramp set.

Specifications:

  • 9.8” W x 35” L
  • 12,000-pound weight limit
  • Weighs 20 pounds

Sample Customer Review…I was in the market for ramps for my CTS-V and was looking for Rhino ramps as I had previously had a great experience with them long ago. Well, I found them at the local auto parts store and my have times changed with those. They have removed every bit of reinforcement and are now unsafe in my opinion. So I did some research and asked around and found the Scepter ramps as the favorite among my car buddies.

I was hesitant to order expecting the same level of quality but when they arrived I was thoroughly impressed, Having been a design engineer for 18 years creating many plastic products and these are definitely sturdy. The rise over run could be a little less aggressive but it did not want to slide although I would always recommend having an additional stop behind them just in case. Buy these with confidence or get some Rhino ramps if you want your head potentially squashed like a grape.

The pieces are pretty easy to attach and come with a safety chock that holds them in place firmly. They are pretty easy to use as they do not require any special assembly and their lightweight makes them easy to transport around. In short, a very good option for a ramp.

  • Easy to store, 4-piece detachable parts

Sample Customer Review…I drive a very low Boss 302 and these have a long ramp. I added a 2×6 to start with and lay the ramp tip on it for the extra clearance. Had no problems with my 89 Corvette either when set up this way. Both cars have long front overhangs and most ramps are not possible to get onto. If you have a low car try these. Good and heavy there were no problems with the car’s weight at all.

Things To Consider Before Buying

Material

Before buying car ramps you need to consider some things. Do you want plastic, rubber, or metal to be the core of your ramp? Plastic always has been the cheapest option and some brands produce the highest of qualities, making them even compete with the most expensive (usually metal).

This particular specification can alter other details about the object. For example, plastic and rubber are always and on a lightweight scale which makes them perfect for traveling gadgets. Whereas with metal, it is usually considered for more stationary use, like doing your own maintenance in your garage.

Size

Another thing you should consider is the size of the ramp. This is particularly important because all ramps come in different shapes and sizes that accommodate a certain amount of vehicles.

For example, there are small ramps that hold on enough weight and are wide enough for only sports cars or smaller vehicles. Whereas the bigger the ramp, the bigger the car that you can put on it. Keeping this in mind will be helpful and in the long run, will protect you from damaging your car.

Angle

Last but not least, you should take into consideration the steepness of your ramp. A sports car is not the same as a pickup truck. That being said, if you use a ramp made up for a higher vehicle in a low-profile vehicle (such as a sports car or motorbike) you can end up damaging your car seriously. The steepness of the ramp lets you know how high the vehicle will be and is also associated with the weight limit.

If you use a smaller ramp on a large vehicle, it could end up tilted or suddenly collapsing due to the weight. The steepness is extremely important to take into consideration while also pairing it with the traction of the surface. Remember that you will be working below your vehicle. If the surface is not made to hold the weight enough of a large vehicle and the ramp is too high, it could end in some serious injuries. Make sure to search first what is exactly the profile of your vehicle and the limits of how high it can go in the process of getting checked.

Conclusion

Before buying a ramp, look at your vehicle and see what exactly you need. Is your vehicle a lower profile or is it an SUV? These little details will help you choose the correct ramp. Remember, not all ramps are made for all vehicles. The material, weight, and size of the ramp is an extremely important detail to consider. We hope that this list helps you narrow down your choices!

How high should the car ramps be?

It all depends on the vehicle and your needs. A 56-inch ramp will put the vehicle 8 inches above the surface while the 67-inch ramp will raise your vehicle 10 inches off the ground. The longer the ramp, the more it will cost, but it will also raise the platform higher and will make the job easy.

Is it safe to work under car ramps on your vehicle?

If you follow all recommendations, instructions, and don’t brave yourself of bypassing the weight limit, it should be completely safe to work under your vehicle while using the car ramps.

Do you need car ramps and jack stands at the same time?

Ramps make such a good job that they don’t require the removal of wheels, which means it’s not necessary to take and use jack stands. They also provide enough clearance to work under without raising the vehicle.
