1. JUKI HZL-F600

Our first recommendation is this great machine known as the Juki HZL-F600. It comes with myriad stitches and patterns as well as 225 stitch patterns. This includes 4 fonts of letters and 16 industrial-style buttonholes.

This model comes with a bunch of different feet to be used like a patchwork presser foot, an edge sewing presser foot, and an open toe presser foot. It also comes with a big LCD display that is used for pattern selection.

The machine also offers automatic needle threading. The foot pedal can be hit with your heel for automatic thread trimming. It comes with a generous throat (4.5 inches tall and 8 inches long) and has a special quilting foot. There is also a walking foot when trying to sew thicker quilting fabrics and denim – or multiple layers.

Specifications

Dimensions14 x 23 x 16 inches/445 x 291 x 210 mm
Weight33.4 pounds (9.8kg) (Machine only)
Pros
  • Can do both quilting and sewing
  • Big enough throat
  • Automatic thread cutter
  • 16 buttonholes
  • LCD Screen
  • Easy needle replacement
  • Easy set up
  • Computerized
  • Box feed technology
  • Able to work with both lightweight and heavy materials
  • 225 different stitch patterns
Cons
  • Manual is not great
  • Tough to use for beginners
  • Computerized may lead to more care needed

Sample Customer Review…Amazing machine, very glad I have it. This machine is TOUGH and will go through multiple thick fabrics without a hitch. Have also sewn light jerseys with no issues. Has a ton of useful stitches and features, the only thing I haven’t tried yet is double needle stitching. I love that the bobbin winder is a separate motor, you don’t have to disengage the main motor to wind a bobbin. The work surface is HUGE and very comfortable. The extension table makes it even bigger if needed. Intuitive controls and a good manual that is easy to navigate and understand. Great machine for the price, has many feature of the really high end models.

2. JUKI MO-654DE

The 7th machine on our list is the JUKI MO-654DE. This is a much different looking machine than most of the other ones in this list. It is an overlock sewing machine. This machine can easily overcast to cover raw, untouched edges to make them look more professional. A lot of people use these types of machines to finish out the projects that they have been working on.

The MO-654DE comes with a 2/3/4 Thread serger and an auto rolled hem. This is great, however, for most projects, you will only be using 3 or 4 threads. Its range of “sewable” fabrics ranged from very light to heavyweight fabrics. This machine can do up to 1500 stitches per minute because of its dedicated drive mechanism and knife system.

Specifications

Sewing Speed11,500 max spm
Number of Threads2/3/4
Stitch Length1-4 mm (rolled hem 1-1.5 mm)
Lift of the Presser Foot5 mm
Needle11 or 14
Machine Dimensions270 mm x 345 mm x 295 mm
Weight (Machine only)15 Lb (7 kg)
Overlocking WidthLeft needle: 6mm; Right needle: 4 mm; Rolled hem: 2 mm
Differential Feed0.7-2 ratio
Pros
  • Durable
  • Great stitch quality
  • Not a ton of vibration – Doesn’t shake on the table
  • Differential Feed
  • 2 needles
  • 2/3/4 thread overlock
  • Thread guide
  • Safety switch
Cons
  • Threading is tough
  • Inconsistent tension sometimes
  • Small pieces mean potential for breaks
  • No scrap bin

Sample Customer Review…I do alterations and need a machine that produces a nice rolled hem on knits and t-shirt fabrics to replace my vintage Singer 14U34B which is just giving out. When I started researching I looked at the BabyLock Evolution but was not impressed with the quality of the rolled hem or the price (which was even a sale price!) and actually wound up purchasing an industrial Juki MO-6604 which does a beautiful rolled hem and the price of the industrial, compared to BabyLock – well — there’s just no comparison. I also used my Singer for simple 3-Thread Overlock edges rather than having to switch over my industrials, so I purchased this Juki MO-654de serger in the hope the quality would be the same as the Juki industrials. (My industrial dealer sells the MO-644D to cleaners but I wanted this particular model) I am EXTREMELY impressed with the sturdiness, stitch quality and price of this machine! The rolled hem is just as beautiful as my industrial and threading is no more difficult than my vintage Singer. It handles MaxiLock and Wooly Nylon thread beautifully. It arrived promptly and I could not be more pleased. I highly recommend this machine and this seller.

3. JUKI TL-2010Q

The JUKI TL-2010Q is a great machine if you’re looking for one that is as precise as you can get. It is very portable, uses a lock stitch, and has a single needle.

It comes with an industrial sub-tensions system, LED lighting, and a variable speed control slider. These main features all add up to that precise sewing these machines are known for. The TL-2010Q comes with a trimming system that is controlled by the foot which allows you to bobbin threads and trim top. But, if you would rather, you can use the automatic thread button and it will trim the needle and bobbin threads.

This sewing machine prevents the thread from shaking at high speeds and gives you precise thread tension. It also gives you complete control of the speed due to its speed control level – this lever is operated by a microcomputer. It also has a big throat at 8.5 inches.

Specifications

Sewing Speed1,500 max r.p.m
Stitch Length6 mm max
Lift of the Presser FootLever 9mm max/Knee lifter 12mm mx

Weight (Machine only)25.4Lb (11.5kg)
Rated Voltage/Power Consumption120V /1.4A, 100W
HookHorizontal-axis full-rotary
Pros
  • Durable and reliable
  • Good for free motion and piecing work
  • Roomy throat
  • Quality walking foot
  • Big work area
  • Auto thread trimmer
  • Portable
Cons
  • Difficult needle threader
  • Dim lighting
  • Walking foot stitch quality is not as good

Sample Customer Review…What a dream machine. I needed a straight stitch for piecing and the ability to quilt including free motion quilting. This is the machine. It is substantial. With a larger harp area, it is easy to see what you quilt. The table helps support larger items. It has a couple of more steps to thread than my Singer, but it was not difficult. I like the bobbin that loads from the side. The auto trim is neat. It snips top and bottom threads and doesn’t lose the bobbin thread. I am finding this to be a great feature. This is really a workhorse machine. The stitch is consistent and it feeds the piecing very well. The feed dogs take the fabric easily. I am really falling in love with this machine already. I debated on the price, but after quilting a lap quilt, which would have cost over $100 at the quilters, I feel it will pay for itself in no time. If this machine could talk it would say “Here, let me help you with that”. Love it!!

4. JUKI HZL-LB5020

The JUKI HZL-LB5020 is a great machine for the house. It is very powerful and accurate. It can handle most fabrics, no matter how thick or heavy they are (Denim and leather). It also comes with a 7-point feed dog, which makes for an accurate machine that you can use when sewing a whole slew of fabrics.

A major feature of this product is the LED screen that allows you to adjust the width and length of stitches. This makes it easy to choose the right stitch for the project you are working on. Like many other machines like this one, the JUKI HZL-LB5020 comes with a one-step buttonhole and you can also complete over seams if you put the presser foot parallel to the throat plate.

The best part about this specific model is the fact that you can accurately stitch every time due to the fact that you can manually set the length and width of the certain stitch you are using.

Specifications

Sewing SpeedMaximum 700 s.p.m.
Stitch LengthMaximum 5mm
Zigzag WidthMaximum 7mm
Dimensions406 x 298 x 182 mm
Weight12.35 pounds (5.6kg)
Pros
  • Accurate stitching
  • Durable and dependable
  • Speed control
  • Foot pedal or button feature (If user has a leg injury)
  • Good for beginners
  • 1-step buttonhole
  • LCD screen
  • 7-point feed dog
  • Stitch chart drawer
Cons
  • There are other options for more experienced
  • Less features than other options
  • Not computerized means not as many stitches as others

Sample Customer Review…I have had machine for about a month so far. So far no problems, makes stitches very well and I like that I don’t have to change the stitch length or anything it does it all by itself. Goes over several layers of fabric with ease. Love the needle down or up feature. Also like that you don’t have to use foot petal, you can use button feature instead this is good for someone disabled or cant use their foot. Also love that I don’t have to take out my thread to rewind my bobbin, this is so awesome not to have to take thread out and then re thread. All in all I review this a 5 star

5. JUKI TL-2000Qi

The JUKI TL-2000Qi is a great option for quilters looking to upgrade their current machine. It comes with one-pedal, LED lights, and it can run at 1500 stitches per minute. This specific model would be good for someone who is looking to quilting home decor and apparel.

The machine has an aluminum die-cast bed and arm which makes the machine have very little vibration while on the table. It is a perfect machine on a table or in a quilt frame. The straight stitch’s max length is about 6mm. It also is computerized and has 6 oil ports. The TL-2000Qi does a very high quality durable straight stitch.

Specifications

Sewing Speed1,500 max r.p.m

Pros
  • Works on heavy materials with ease
  • Sturdy
  • No vibrating at high speeds
  • Automatic needle threader
  • Extension table
  • LED Lights
  • Automatic needle threader and cutter
Cons
  • Big learning curve
  • Does not come with FMQ foot
  • Not a starters machine

Sample Customer Review…I am absolutely in love with this machine! I have had a Singer Curvy for basic sewing for the last 8 years, but I wanted to upgrade to a quilting machine. After much research, I chose the Juki as it had great reviews, and is sturdy enough to be able to sew canvas which I will need in the future. It has NOT disappointed! It is a very sturdy build (which means it does have some weight) which makes for incredibly smooth sewing. I’m used to a machine that vibrates so much my entire workspace bounces. My table stays completely still. Setup was very simple when following the instructions, and it was fun to find all of the little “perks” this machine has that I didn’t know exist. Every issue that I have had with my Juki has been due to user error, and the one time I was SURE it wasn’t me, I contacted Juki support and had a technician solve my problem within hours of emailing. (Hint, the problem was me.) So I now have a very sturdy, high quality machine, and great customer service and support to back it up. Worth EVERY penny!

6. JUKI HZL-F300

The JUKI HZL-F300 is a great option for people looking to do both quilting and sewing. This model, like a lot of the others, comes with an auto needle threader and can easily bobbin threads with quick bobbin preparation and bobbin thread winding.

The HZL-F300 comes with 106 stitch patterns, which include 3 lettering fonts. This model also comes with a free arm which will help with all of your quilting and sewing needs.

The F300 includes 16 auto electronic sensor-controlled buttonholes. There is also an optional extension table to make your sewing space bigger. It fits perfectly and also comes with an auto one-touch thread cutting and auto needle threader.

Specifications

Dimensions445 x 291 x 210 mm
Weight (Machine only)21.6 pounds (9.8kg)
Pros
  • Great sewing experience
  • Box feed
  • Automatic needle threader
  • Good for beginners
  • Buttonholes
  • Foot controller with thread trimming function
  • Knee-lifting lever
Cons
  • Presser foot difficult to use
  • Heavy
  • Thread cutter sometimes trim thread while sewing

Sample Customer Review…I have been a home sewer and costumer for community theater for many years. With retirement looming, I wanted to upgrade to an computer directed sewing machine. I I did extensive research into all of the best machines (Bernina, Janome, Juki, Singer and Brother) even “test driving” several at a local sewing machine dealer. I was looking for a solid machine, reliable, quiet and able to finesse both delicate and strdy fabric. Of all the mid-range machines, the 300 seemed to have all of the features I wanted for a reasonable price. I have been very pleased with my purchase. Set up was easy…the instruction book is easy to follow with well written instructions and illustrations. The tension is easy to adjust, the automatic threader works every time, and I love the automatic thread cutter. My first project has been a tailored woolen coat. The stitches are beautifully even and the machine handled multiple layres of wool easily and negotiated the slick lining with ease. I suspect that I would have been pleased with any of the other machines I considered, but did not test. This machine, however, is everything I wanted and more. I hope to use it for many years to come.

7. JUKI HZL-DX7

The JUKI HZL-DX7 is a great option when it comes to Juki. It is a computerized machine that also comes with a box feed system. The best part about the box feed system is that it creates a reliable seam every time because it makes sure that it stays in contact with fabric for longer periods. This machine, like the last one, is also capable of any sewing and quilting projects that you might embark on.

The DX7 comes with multiple feet (an invisible zipper foot, a rolled hemming presser foot, a button attaching presser foot, and a quilt presser foot). Another great thing is that it comes with 277 different stitch patterns, which include different letter fonts. Also comes with a stitch area magnifier, which allows for 1.4 times magnification of the area you are stitching.

Specifications

Control system1,500 max r.p.m
Dimensions445 x 291 x 210mm
Dimensions with hard case510 x 305 x 257mm
Arm size8.0″x 4.4″ (203 x 112mm)
Weight21.6 pounds (10.3kg)
Pros
  • Quiet machine
  • Thread trimming button
  • Built-in straight stitch plate
  • 8-inch throat
  • Great for both quilting and sewing
  • Tons of different stitches
  • Versatile quick start buttons (Start/stop, lock stitch, needle up/down, reverse stitch, and presser foot auto lift)
Cons
  • Missing buttonhole foot
  • Threads sometimes jam during free-motion use
  • Bobbin directions not great

Sample Customer Review…I have been wanting to upgrade to a big, fancy machine for a while but could never afford all the bells and whistles. Then I found a great deal on this one from Amazon Warehouse! This machine is everything I have been wanting and more! It is so much quieter than my old mechanical machine. It is so much stronger than my old machine. It has so many more features than my old machine. And best of all, just all around sewing on this machine is so much easier! It does take some getting used to with figuring out all the settings and buttons, but a lot is intuitive for someone who has been sewing for a while. I actually don’t mind doing buttonholes! My old machine only did 4 step manual. I’m still finding little features that I love (e.g. the floating foot feature is great for layers of fleece and velour). I could ramble on and on, but if you are looking for a nice upgrade definitely check this one out.

8. Juki HZL-NX7

The Juki HZL-NX7 is one of the top line home machines and with it being computerized, it can do just about anything! You can adjust anything from thread tension to pressure on the presser foot by using a touchpad. One of the great features of this machine is that since it is a computerized machine, it can store all of your data from each product.

Specifications

  • Weight 43.3 pounds
  • Dimension of 26.2 x 17.7 x 14.8 inches
Pros
  • Free motion sewing
  • Digital touch pad
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Heavy
  • Not for heavy fabric

Sample Customer Review…I am a garment sewer and quilter and this machine works great for me. It has enough additional stitches for garment sewing and a great bed, walking foot feature and additional features to facilitate quilting. I have had no issues with it, and I purchased in November. You will have to use the manual initially to thread, put the bobbin in, and set up the customizable features like the dual foot pad and the automatic backstitch, automatic thread cutting etc. Changing out the foot feed for straight stitch has a slight learning curve but it’s so worth doing. I love how you can customize the even feed /walking foot feature to get the perfect feed for the quilt sandwich or fabric you are using. I was used to a built in walking foot since I own at Pfaff 7550. The hover feature also takes some getting used to but when putting binding on a quilt it’s a dream. The videos by Juki are subtitled requiring that you read the instructions rather then listening and doing, efficient from a multilanguage standpoint for Jiuki but less than optimal for the user. I’m looking forward to some of the independent sewing machine retailers doing some great videos of how to customize and set up the machine. I haven’t regretted a minute of having this machine!

9. Juki MO-1000

The Juki MO-1000 is another great and fast sewing machine. Included is a safety feature that shuts off the machine when the pressure foot is up or the cover is open. This feature is great if you have kids to ensure their safety around the machine. With the many different features on this product, you can create beautiful finishes on almost any type of fabric.

Specifications

  • Weighs 22 pounds
  • Dimensions of 15.4 x 15.2 x 16.3 inches
Pros
  • Smooth
  • Quiet
  • Self-threading serger
Cons
  • Needle breaks easily
  • Heavy

Sample Customer Review…AMAZING MACHINE! Thrilled with this serger. Setup was a breeze. The easiest threading – between air threader for loopers + the right/left needles. Air threader is the best feature, however, not mentioned much in product description is how easy it is to thread the right/left needles – at the point of threading the needle eye, there is this ‘clip’ you push the thread into and lift the lever and the needle is threading. No squinting, magnifier glass,no frustration. Only thing is that CD/DVD that came with machine didn’t auto run in my computer, but there is same thing on YouTube so was no issue. This is a MUST for any serious sewer.

10. JUKI DDL 8700 H

When it comes to heavy duty sewing, this product can complete your project within seconds. The topstitching part of this machine can sew 5,500 stitches in just one minute. With the arm space of 11 inches, it makes sewing quilts and other large projects a breeze. There is not much maintenance with this machine other than oiling which can be done very quickly. Overall, if you are looking for a fast and easy heavy duty sewing machine, this one here is perfect for you.

Specifications

  • Dimensions of 48 x 20 x 4 inches
  • Weighs 70 pounds
Pros
  • Fast
  • Little maintenance required
Cons
  • Heavy
  • Hard to assemble

Sample Customer Review…Sample Customer Review…Absolutely love this machine. It took me some time to decide to purchase because of the negative reviews on assembly. I am retired and have some medical issues. With the tutorials you can find on YouTube I was able to do 95% of the assembly myself, but due to the heavyness of the machine I had to get my boyfriend to help me with the other 5%. So if I can do anyone can.
