Cons

Sample Customer Review… Very good coffee, fragrant with hints of chocolate and vanilla. Flavor is smooth and mild, not bitter, so good you can drink it black. I ordered this by mistake, I wanted Colombian ground coffee. This is a whole bean meaning you need a coffee grinder to use it. It’s better then Colombian coffee brand I was buying local. The roast is fine, I like a lighter roast but it’s good anyway.

I wasn’t even going to buy this but I needed to order additional items to get free shipping for non food item needed for home repair. Anyway, this came up in the search and I thought it was pre-ground Colombian and didn’t even know until today when I checked the package.

I was suffering 20 years of stomach trouble,. Bad acid heartburn and reflux and changed my diet, the problem continued. Now I drink gallons of coffee so I thought maybe it was the coffee. Changing to organic coffee fixed the problem and I was so happy.

Sample Customer Review… There are many depressing things that happen to a person as they get older. For me, it was excruciating heartburn every time I drank coffee. I love the smell & taste of coffee but it was becoming unbearable to drink because of the horrible pain I’d experience every night. So one day I googled the issue and read that if you drank coffee made from shade grown Arabica beans it would be less likely to give you heartburn.

Desperate for a solution I searched for these magical coffee beans and found them on Amazon. Cup after cup of coffee was delicious and no heartburn! I was cured! I ordered one pound, then another. Then one day I didn’t have enough left to make a full pot so I mixed in some of my old store-bought coffee. That night…unbelievable heartburn. Pain so bad I was sick to my stomach from it. Now I am 100% forever sold on this Java Planet coffee. The premium price is more than worth it, ten times over.

Sample Customer Review…The coffee itself is very good. It’s got a really nice flavor, and I love that there are options for how much caffeine the coffee contains. Perfect for pregnancy. I bought a french press to brew mine, since I’m only supposed to have so much coffee, and it works wonderfully!

On top of a wonderful product, the company is also terrific! I had an issue with the packaging/shipping (which is outsourced), and I reached out to them. Even though the issue wasn’t technically with them, they did everything they could to make things right. I really appreciate a company that cares about the consumer, and it’s clear that Mommee Coffee does!

Completely cutting out coffee isn’t int he cards yet so I wanted to try something that might help. You will not be disappointed! The taste is great, I like the Medium but Im sure all of them are good. If you have the same issues I do, try this and see if it helps.

  • Sweet taste not found in most coffees
Cons

  • Sweet taste might be off-putting to some
  • Lower caffeine content

Sample Customer Review…These beans are delicious and my stomach is so thankful for them! I love my two daily coffees, but lately I’ve been getting pretty bad heartburn. I started reading about low acidic coffees and how they can be a game changer for people who have stomach problems after drinking coffee. Volcanica’s blend came up as the #2 low acidic coffee on a couple of reviews and was much more reasonably priced than the #1 (lifeboost), so I thought I would try it.

I cannot tell you what a difference it has made! It’s so rich and silky/smooth, without tasting burnt or too toasty like I think some of these other low acidic coffees can taste. It’s makes a good espresso but I think even better in the Chemex. It’s high quality coffeee… for reallz.

I will be buying again and I would recommend that anyone else who loves their coffee but has digestive problems from coffee to try it. And even if your tummy can take all the coffees, it’s still worth trying if you like a medium/dark toasty roast!

This rich, savory, and smooth coffee blend is the perfect companion to the start of your day, and the low acidity is just a bonus that comes with the coffee’s excellent taste! Puroast has 70% less acidity than your typical coffee blend and lacks that bitter coffee taste, not only this, but this coffee is filled with antioxidants, and is completely organic and natural. No longer does your coffee have to be filled to the brim with harmful chemicals, sugar, or acid, but instead beneficial ingredients that will have you feeling energized and refreshed!

Specifications:

  • Brand: Puroast
  • Item Form: Whole Bean
  • Roast Level: Dark Roast
  • Flavor: Organic French Roast (Caffeinated)
Pros
  • Organic and natural, no additives
  • Excellent flavor
  • Wonderful aroma
  • Lots of antioxidants
Cons
  • Aroma might be too strong

Sample Customer Review…This was a great coffee for its intended purpose, a gourmet dark roast coffee with a dramatic reduction of acid. We tried this in our standard pour over carafe. I can see where some people may not like it because it doesn’t have the same base earthy notes some varieties have. With all coffee I usually blend 3 brands to get more depth of flavor.

After our first pot of this I tried it mixed with our 3 blend and found it was an exceptional addition. If I struggled with acid issues but wanted more depth of flavors I would try blending 10-20% of a traditional coffee with this to get the best of both worlds.

Healthwise has a mellow and mild taste, avoiding the harsh bitter flavor that usually comes with coffee, which in the end is another aspect that helps avoid any discomfort in the stomach or heartburn after your morning cup.

The only downside to this blend is the mildness of its flavor, and the difficulty in finding it in non-K-cup forms, but if you have a Keurig, and are seeking a more delicate taste, this could be the coffee for you!

Specifications:

  • Brand: HealthWise
  • Item Form: Pods
  • Flavor: Original
Pros
  • Full of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals
  • Kosher
  • Uses “techno roasting” process
Cons
  • Only available in K-Cup form

Sample Customer Review…This coffee is a lifesaver! I have really bad GERD and I had to stop drinking coffee for a short time. It was short because I immediately started searching for a low acid coffee. Why not? They make everything else, right! I found this on Amazon, took a leap of faith, and purchased it. I did not experience any of the throat burn or heartburn I did with regular coffee. It also tastes very good and is a nice medium roast coffee.

I was so excited to know I could continue with my morning cup of coffee. I have been drinking this for about a month now…not one issue. This is the first product I ever created a subscription for on Amazon. I even ordered a can vice the K-Cups to take w/me on vacation. I don’t want to be without it!

Why Buy Low Acid Coffee?

Coffee is a morning staple for many of us, and provides numerous health benefits, studies showing that it lowers the risks of heart disease, dementia, and is chock full of antioxidants that aid in healthier living, but for some, coffee can also have some harmful side effects. The acidic nature of coffee can be a major source of discomfort for those with stomach issues, or those prone to heartburn.

When looking at the pH scale, ranging from 0 (very acidic) to 14 (very basic), 7 is the most neutral (and this is where water lies) and coffee typically has a pH balance of around 5, so while coffee isn’t as acidic as some juices, it still can be an issue for some. Low acid coffee is a relatively recent venture for coffee companies, but one that can leave you with all of the health benefits, and does not hold the same risks that accompany many of the more acidic brews.

What to Look For in Your Low Acid Coffee

When looking for a low acid coffee, there are many things to look for, and many aspects of your brewing that can lead to a negative reaction. The things to be aware of:

Your Beans:

  • Beans from Brazil, Nicaragua, and Sumatra have naturally lower acidity levels, but some beans undergo chemical processing that can further affect the acidity, so pay close attention to what the packaging of your coffee details about its production process.

Roast Level:

  • The Roast Level of your coffee is an easily controllable aspect when looking for a bean to buy, the variety of light, medium, dark roasts provide different levels of acidity. While there isn’t a huge difference in each roast’s pH levels, dark roast is typically the less acidic option.

Water Quality:

  • When brewing coffee, the quality of your water bears more importance than you might think. While tap water is most of our go-to, if the water comes from the city’s water system, there may be unwanted chemicals that can influence your coffee’s acidity. If you feel this could be an issue, you can use filtered water in your coffee as an alternative, or buy a brewer that filters the water automatically.

Your Brewing Process:

  • Finally, the way that you choose to brew your coffee has a lot of influence on the resulting acidity, cold brew coffee, for example, has 70% less acidity than a hot cup of coffee, and part of this is aided by the lengthy process of making cold brew coffee.

How to Further Reduce the Acidity of Your Morning Cup

  • Dark roast coffees are better acidity wise.
  • Keep your coffee colder (if not iced, then just drink a cooler cup).
  • A more coarsely ground coffee helps with the acidity. If your favorite flavors are not found in your desired form, you can buy whole bean coffee and grind the beans yourself!
  • Decaf coffee has a lower acidity than fully caffeinated.
  • Mix your usual brew with low-acid blends, and opens the door for some exciting flavor experimentation!
  • Increasing your brew time can decrease the acidity, so a French press could help.

Buying Guide: Things to Consider When Buying Low-Acid Coffee

For many people, coffee is the go-to drink for early mornings or anytime when a little extra energy is needed. This staple in many households can often have negative side effects due to the high levels of acidity. These side effects could range from heartburn to headaches, to feeling overall unwell. While there are many options of coffee in stores, here is our guide to finding the right low-acid Coffee for you or your loved one.

Health Benefits

One of the main reasons for someone to switch from regular coffee to low-acid coffee is for the added control of the acidity in one’s body. Acid in beverages can cause not so pleasant side effects in your body. If you suffer from acid related health concerns, such as consistent heartburn, headaches, or acid-reflux, these low-acid coffees may be beneficial to add to your morning routine. We recommend looking at the pros and cons of the item before purchasing to make sure that it will meet your health needs. It may also be plausible to try a few, slightly different blends of coffee to test for yourself.

Price

While low-acid coffee may be the best to help solve some health concerns, you should always check the price to fit into your budget. Because some of these beans are created in small batches, they may be more expensive. Look for coffee that you are able to afford that will also be able to help your acid-related side effects.

Preference

Like all coffee, low-acid coffee is available in multiple forms. You can buy in whole bean or ground. This is fully a preference and convenience choice. Some like the whole bean for the fresh and compacted flavor that comes out when you ground yourself. While this may have a better taste for some, it is extra time consuming to ground your own beans and may require another machine to help grind. Others prefer the already grounded coffee beans because of the quick and easy convenience. We recommend looking at your daily life and seeing which option fits to optimize your mornings.

Of course, flavor is another big preference for coffee drinkers. These low-acid coffees have a wide range of flavor profiles. They can have specific flavor notes such as caramel and chocolate or a dark or light roast. If you are already a consumer of traditional coffee, we recommend looking at the flavors of your preferred coffee and finding a suitable match. If you are not a coffee drinker, we recommend reading reviews and flavor descriptions to find your perfect match.

Conclusion

When it comes to the best low acid coffee, there are many brands to choose from, and one brand might work better for you than others. We highly recommend Subtle Earth Organic Coffee due to the strength of its flavor in spite of its decreased acidity, but no one will know your body, and which brand might help and which might hurt, more than you. So even if Subtle Earth Organic isn’t your pick, hopefully, this list will help you find a healthy low acid coffee that will bring back the joy of that morning cup without the negative side effects.
