Granblue Fantasy (GBF) is a Japanese mobile game that has become popular not just in Japan, but worldwide as well due to its large collection of characters, or units, to build your team with. It can be hard to figure out which characters to use, but in this article is a Granblue Fantasy tier list to help you decide.
GBF was developed by Cygames and first released in 2014. This is a gacha game, which means that players use in-game currency to be rewarded with a random character from the base pool. Each character has one of the six elemental powers as well as their own abilities. These are wind, water, light, fire, earth, and dark.
In this tier list, each character has been ranked based on their elemental abilities, and the list has been divided into six tiers: S, A, B, C, D, and F.
Tier List
S – Tier
The units in the S-tier are the best of the best. They are considered to be must-have characters with the most overpowered toolkits and the top abilities. They are the best in the game for not only causing damage to enemies but taking damage too. You cannot go wrong with units in this tier.
Wind units – Andira, Grimnir, Yurius, Meteon, Monika, Nezahualpilli, Tiamat, Yodarha
Water units – Vajre, Cagliostro, Grea, Lily, Vane, Altair, Europa, Katlaing, Lecia, Lucio, Narmaya, Sturm
Light units – Jeanne d’Arc, Noa, Hallessena, Halluel and Malluel, Io, Ferry, Ilsa, Kumbhira, Melissabelle, Robomi, Zooey
Fire units – Shiva, Anila, Zeta, Siegfried, Metera, Athena

Dark units – Rei, Helel ben Shalem, Kolulu, Olivia, Black Knight, Clarisse, Vikala, Amira, Anthuria, Vania, Wulf and Renie
A – Tier
The units in the A-tier are just a smidge under those in the S-tier. While they may not excel in some specific areas, they are still excellent units. They are strong in both attacking and defense and can perform well against all types of opponents. If you can summon any of these characters, you should train them because it will pay off in a big way later on.
Wind units – Albert, Heles, Naoise, Societte, Gawain, Seruel, Kokkoro, Lennah, Levi, Morrigna, Selfira, Stan and Aliza

Dark units – Lady Grey, Narmaya, Orchid, Vaseraga, Azazel, Tanya, Lunalu, Nicholas, Rosetta, Black Knights and Orchid, Joker, Kou, Seox, Veight
B – Tier
B-tier units are ones that are good to train. Even though they are not as strong offensively and have low mobility, they are good defenders and are beneficial to have on your squad as a compliment to your higher-tiered units.
Wind units – Mirin, Arriet, Carmelina, Christina, Feena, Gachapin, Kaede Takagaki, Korwa, Petra, Sen, Suzaku Kururugi, Yuisis, Juri, Sevilbarra

Dark units – Cerberus, Forte, Freezie, Karyl, Lelouch Lamperouge, Marquiares, Skull
C – Tier
C-tier units are characters that do not cost as much and are smart to have if there is difficulty getting higher-tiered units. They also provide some value in early to mid-game, and their best use is for defensive gameplay.
Wind units – Helnar, Mikasa, Krugne, Miku Maekawa, Mimlemel and Stumpeye, Sevastien, Shiki Ichinose, Sutera
Water units – Cailana, Leona, Lowain, Mina, Ejaeli, Minami Nitta, Morphe and Phoebe

Fire units – Danua, Friday, Dante, Ferry, Sutera, Aster, Gemini Sunrise, Izuminokami Kanesada, Lina, Miria Akagi, Naoise

Dark units – Katalina, Sarunan, Elize Lotus, Meg, Richard, Shao, Will, You, Deliford, Mika Jougasaki, Zaja
D – Tier
The units in the D-tier are below average and are bad to build your squad around. It is better to replace them because they have low ceilings and are not very powerful, making them poor choices long-term.
Wind units – Arisa, Arthur, Arthur and Mordred, Chloe, Goblin Mage, Hazen, Karteira, Keehar, Rashid, Toru Amuro, Tsubasa Kashiwagi, Eso, Robertina, Ryu, Sakura Shinjugi
Water units – Kaoru Sakuraba, Lamretta, Mishra, Pamela, Anastasia, Ange, Camieux, Chun-Li, Erin, Farrah, Mizuki Kawashima, Naga, Rin Shibuya, Sahli Lao, Sig, Suframare, Ulamnuran
Light units – Ceylan, Ezecrain, Johann, Philosophia, Uzuki Shimamura, Daetta, Elta, Nakoruru, Novei, Soriz, Sakura Kinomoto
Fire units – Nina Drango, Alec, Barawa, Carren, Cassius, Karin, Mio Honda, Rosine, Elmott, Ippatsu, Jessica, Karva, Mary, Milla Maxwell, Ryan, Stahn Aileron
Earth units – Airi Totoki, Anzu Futaba, J.J., La Coiffe, Mimlemel and Pun-Kin, Redluck, Vanzza, Zaja, Augusta, Carmelina, Claudia, Juri, Kanako Mimura, Laguna, Mariah, Skull, Yamanbagiri Kunihiro
Dark units – Koume Shirasaka, Randall, Ranko Kanzaki, Luna, Stan, Yuri Lowell, Zehek
F – Unit
Coming in at last on the rankings are the F-tier units, which are obviously the weakest in the game. They are easy prey for enemies due to their glaring weaknesses and inferior skills, and their abilities take time before you can use them again.
Wind units – Aster, Haohmaru, Syr, Joy
Water units – Pengy
Light units – Sachiko Koshizimu
Fire units – Anna, Sarya, Teru Tendo, Dorothy
Earth units – Paris, Volenna
Dark units – Ange, Ludmila, Rita
